Background[edit | edit source]

Chronology[edit | edit source]

[Necromancers] hired by Ailendamus laid an ambush for him and his family while they were out of the city. They instead attacked the escort of princess Seraphel du Marquin of Calanfer. He rode to their rescue with his men, destroying the undead and having the necromancers hunted down. He offered the princess the hospitality of his home until a better escort could be arranged, though he worried if his family could properly host royalty, being in charge of a poor region.

He travelled to Landsmecht with eight of his personal guards to put down a horde of zombie animals. They found and killed the undead bear and two deer on the road. Arriving at the village, he found the inhabitants in high spirits instead of frightened, and learned from Idelt that the [Hunter] Rethis had shot and put down the remaining undead in the night, thanks to the light generated by Cara. Before he returned to the town, he heard her and Violetta's performance. Intrigued by the music from the iphone, he went to meet them. He invited them to perform in Adreissel. Violetta accepted, and had Cara accept too despite her distaste for the concept of nobility, of which she informed Lantal.

He arranged a banquet for the princess' entertainment, and invited Duchess Grishen to attend. He and his wife talked to Seraphel about his duties and the difference of undead rising in Noelictus and other nations. He also considered letting the Thronebearers accompany him to kill undead, to let them show off and repair their wounded pride.

At the banquet, he was pleased by Cara and Violetta's performance. But the banquet was interupted when Eline burst in and alerted everyone that the village of Qet had been attacked by undead. Lantal immediatly departed to Qet with his retainers and the Thronebearers. When they arrived, the village had been depopulated, its inhabitants turned into an undead horde including Crypt Lords. The group engaged the undead but were forced to retreat when faced with a Draugr. They then rode to the nearest villages to evacuate them.

The town was under siege and waited for help from the capital and Hunter's Guild. When she woke up the next day, Cara confessed that the army the necromancer raised was likely created from the Tomb of Afiele she opened. Lantal wanted to evacuate but Grishen advised they fortified instead. He also clarified to Seraphel what the Tombwarden was. He would personally fight the undead during the siege.

The siege ended when a Zombie Giant was brought against them. Grishen ordered an evacuation, though Lantal moved to have it brought down to give them more time. He had the defenders target its legs with axes, but Feremont fixed the damage they delt to it and the walls still fell. The giant crushed Meltain, who had pushed Lantal out of the way. Lantal tried to draw the Zombie Giant's attention away from the people.

He witnessed his family fall out of Seraphel's carriage and went to rescue them. the keep's [Cook] Edert directed him upstairs in the keep. The family spent their last moments together, then Lantal fought the undead alongside his wife. During the battle, Risel was killed by a skeleton. Soon after, Lantal killed his undead wife, and fought to put as many of his fallen friends and people to rest as he could before he succumbed and perished as well.

After the [Necromancer]'s death, a funeral was held for him and his wife, with the people of Afiele and those present during the crisis in attendence. The mourners sang the song of Afiele's farewell, and Sasi placed the last sprig of dark wheat taken from the burnt fields on his coffin. He and Risel were placed in the Tomb of Afiele by the ghosts.[1]
