Synopsis edit edit source

Digneral and his forces are battling Ovela’s army, led by the Twins, Lord Fallien and Lady Piral. Enduring years of constant fighting, Ovela is the blockade between the rest of Noelictus and any enemies coming from the east. Its main advantage lies in the Hammer of Ovela, a giant ballista that can launch wooden stakes miles away. However, the Twins are also adept at leading [Soldiers], with Fallien specializing in slow defensive pushes while Piral is more mobile, riding in and striking at weak points with crossbows. They are said to hate each other, arising from conflicting personalities and vying to be named [Earl] of the region. However, they set their rivalry aside when fighting their mutual enemy, Digneral, whom they have fought eighty-nine battles with over a period of six years.

Digneral receives word of an emissary from Ailendamus’s conflict, but ignores it in favor of focusing on the battle. His [Knights] are from the Order of Drell-, Ailendamus’s most heavily-armed [Knight] Order. They are able to withstand the enemy onslaught of fire magic and the Hammer. After both sides clash several times, Digneral calls for a retreat.

Ovela’s forces cheer their victory while Digneral’s forces retreat, despite suffering greater losses The [Baron] calculates that over ninety-eight percent of his people have survived, while Fallien lost nearly nine percent. He is surprised when he realizes the emissary from the capital are Duke Rhisveri, brother to King Itorin II and Viscount Visophecin, the head of House Sheol. Despite initially fearing that they would criticize him for his defeat, both men are able to tell that Digneral’s army had far fewer losses. While Visophecin is polite and complimentary, Rhisveri is more ruder and sarcastic, despite being the one to approve and fund the [Baron’s] plan.

In most of Ovela’s and House du Ecte’s conflicts, Ovela has suffered more losses. While they make up for it by raiding Ailendamus’s borders to steal gold and artifacts, Ovela has weakened over the years. Now, Digneral is preparing for a fresh offensive that would catch Ovela off-guard. While Rhisveri leaves, Viscophecin decides to stay with the [Baron], wanting to witness the final stages of Digneral’s plan for conquering and securing Noelictus.
