The Isle of Goblins is a floating island populated by Goblins. Founded by Sóve the Island Queen, it has existed for thousands of years and is the ancient enemy of the House of Minos.[1]

Background[edit | edit source]

The Goblin Isle floats on the ocean, possibly in a random way, but draws close to the House of Minos every year, whereupon the Goblins of this tribe and Minotaurs clash. It is ruled by the Goblin Lord Izikere, who has protected the island for centuries, like three other Goblin Lords before her. The Isle has strong magical protections.[2] The Isle's existence is not common knowledge among the other races or Goblins.[3][2] Migrations of various birds species make their way to the Island, and befriend some of the Goblin inhabitants.[4]

Some of the Goblins of the Isle had moss or lichen growing on their skin, which acts as a sort of armor. Such Goblins were said to be almost half-Hobgoblin, half-Goblin.[5] In the safety of the island, the Goblin inhabitants can live long lives and want for little. However, the most talented Goblins are inducted into the their combatants, even if their passion and talent is not combat-related.[4]

The House of Minos clashes with the Goblin Isle to keep them contained and deplete their numbers. Though Minotaurs ostensibly clash with the Goblin Isle in part to prevent them from aiding other Goblin tribes around the world, Niers Astoragon says the Goblin Isle tribe does so regardless. This was earlier seen to be correct.[5]

No Goblin King has ever emerged from the island since its creation. Greydath claims it is because they are too foreign to the other Goblin tribes.[4]

Layout[edit | edit source]

The island is filled with dense lush jungles. Inside, the Goblin villages are similar to the timeless villages of the half-Elves. There is a garden of statues of the previous Goblin Kings, each holding the legacy they left to Goblinkind.[4]

Military Strength[edit | edit source]

The Goblin Isle has regularly clashed with Minos, one of the strongest military powers in the world, for thousands of years. It can field two dozen Fomirelins in battle[2] and hundreds of Hobgoblins strong enough to trade evenly with the best Minotaur warriors from the House of Minos. They have numerous [Shamans].[4]

They lack metal, so some of their weapons are made of wood and stone, but enchanted to still be just as deadly. They also make use of alchemical weapons and tamed animals.[4]

History[edit | edit source]

The Isle was created at the end of the Minotaurs' Age of Conquest. It has been sending aid to goblin tribes on other continents ever since, and regularly made war with the House of Minos.

Once, they and the House of Minos killed an Elder Creler, and the warriors on both sides chose not to fight afterwards and withdrew instead.

Velan the Kind came to the island twice, first to learn and then to lead them to war. Izikere had refused to join him in his rampage.[4]

Chronology[edit | edit source]

Volume 7[edit | edit source]

A Goblin ship sailing from the Goblin Isle passed close to the ship where Niers Astoragon's students. Venaz was held back from fighting the Goblins because they were sailing over Kraken's Pass.[3]

___

The Goblin ship, having picked up Greydath by coincidence as he swam to the Isle, is on their way to Baleros on the orders of a female Goblin, as Lizardfolk have already killed three Goblin tribes. They are approached by the Illuminary and Rasea Zecrew invites any Goblins aboard to join her. Upon being rebuffed, she sails away.[5]

Volume 9[edit | edit source]

The House of Minos and the Goblin Isle fought during the regular Month of Strife. The Minotaurs attempted to scuttle the ships the Goblins had amassed to deny them a seafaring force and prevent them from rendering aid to other tribes. Greydath entered the battle and caused the conflict to escalate, resulting in Prince Khedal being stranded on the Goblin island. He would return to the House of Minos, and later give chase to the Goblin ships as they sailed out but failed to escape due to the altered currents from Izril's new landmass being raised. However, those were decoys, and the merchant Saimh had given his ships to the Goblins to let them sail away.[4]
