Kaalblades are an Artifact sold by the El Family.

The House of El created 200 Kaalblades under the leadership of Maviola El. The project is a recreation of an old artifact and was overseen by Deilan El with input from Archmage Valeterisa. [1][2][3]

Description[edit | edit source]
Kaalblade hilts look like rods made of wood and metal with a small button on the side. [1][5] When the button is pressed a small rod of metal extends from the hilt and a glowing blade made of magic appears. At least one blade is red-green in color and transparent at the edges.[1] The blades have also been described as "oversized carrot peelers".[3] They are lighter than most regular swords and are powered by mana stones. Kaalblades are capable of cutting through most mundane metals as well as weak enchantments.[1]
Earthers believe they resemble lightsabers.[6]

When Kaalblades are first mentioned in Volume 7, Maviola El and Deilan El are discussing the projects failure as all pending orders have been canceled as the usage of mana stones is considered not to be financially worth while.[1]
Kaalblades are first used publicly by Maviola El during Ryoka's ride to deliver a cure to Tyrion Veltras.[7]
Ryoka Griffin convinces Deilan to do a product demo at the Village of the Dead by having his mercenaries use Kaalblades while fighting.[3]

The interest after the display at the Village of the Dead resulted in all 199 Kaalblaes in House El's possession being sold as well as orders for "nearly three times that number"[8]
