Artifacts

From The Wandering Inn Wiki

Artifacts are magical enchanted items.

Overview[edit | edit source]

Grade Class[edit | edit source]

The main difference between magical items and artifact-grade items is that artifacts have safeguards against losing their magic, and will not fail unless truely broken.[1] Every artifact has a grade of quality and power that range from Low-class to High-class, with Relic-class being the highest so far. There used to be grades for Relics as well once, but they seem to no longer be in use by the current era.[2]

Magical Dissonance[edit | edit source]

There is nothing that prevents any one person from wearing and using any artifact of any grade, except for those that are warded to activate on specific conditions or cursed by someone. However, When equipped on a person's body, artifacts become active. Dissonance will occur with enough active artifacts in close proximity, e.g. on a person. With enough active artifacts, a threshold limit can be exceeded and result in catastrophic effects such as the enchantments combining, breaking, or doing something nasty, like exploding or imploding.[3]

A telltale sign of exceeding the threshold limit is when all the artifacts start to slowly shake, with the vibrations increasing in magnitude exponentially until either some artifacts are removed to the safe limit, or the dissonance happen in full effect.[3]

Most people have a limit of 4 artifacts, max, including a Bag of Holding on them without any risks,[3] but it is possible to have up to 12 artifacts on them if each artifacts were made to perfectly balanced so that the magical leakage was at the threshold.[4] There are also some Skills that can enable one to wear up to 8 artifacts without generating any magical interference.[5] The dangers of magical dissonance can be alleviated by correcting magical leakage in an artifact, such as in the case of [Warmage] Thresk's bag of holding.

Bags of Holding can be used to carry magical artifacts, so long as they are inactive, without fear of dissonance.[3]
