Lantern Lands

From The Wandering Inn Wiki

The Lantern Lands are a region in Chandrar, named for the lanterns used on the roads and the cities in the area.

Overview[edit | edit source]

The Lantern Lands are a region with magical mists that occasionally blow in. These mists are considered very dangerous, conjuring images of people associated with the travellers' wrongdoings, past regrets, and guilt, which will proceed to attack. The danger grows with the person's level, but the mist apparitions are unable to exceed the limits of high Level 30s in power; meanwhile, children are able to wander in and survive. The monsters called Children originated from those mists, and will attack alongside the apparitions.[1]

Ancient magical lanterns, hung from old metal poles, ward off the mist and have become a significant part of the region's culture. Inhabitants will hang up colorful lanterns, carry side-lanterns, and the cities will have lantern artifacts.[2] Non-magical lanterns are weaker than magical lanterns, but still offer protection. Travelling slavers dislike the region because of the mists, and will stick to the roads and not linger.[1]

Geography[edit | edit source]

The Lantern Lands are located in the southwestern coast of Chandrar,[1] and are close to the Empire of Scaied and to Roshal. It is a flat stretch of land, and the old clay roads are illuminated by magical colored lanterns a thousand paces apart.[2] Multiple nations are located within the region.
