First Appearance

Chapter 2.22 K

Mars, also known as Mars the Illusionist, is one of the Seven, and the Vanguard of Flos Reimarch.

Appearance

Illusionary Forms:

Mars uses a number of magical items to cast illusions over herself, changing her appearance into that of various attractive women. Her illusions are realistic enough to respond to the physical world, like her hair moving with the wind, while also reflecting her mental state.[1] While she frequently appears as a tall, buxom redhead with dusky, flawless skin,[2] she also been shown with blonde, blue and purple hair. Her armor is likewise illusioned to be form-fitting, while her helmet is invisible, giving the impression she enters battle bareheaded.

True Appearance:

Without making use of her "trinkets", she has a shorter, thicker figure and flat chest, with pale skin, a face that is a bit plain with a few faint freckles, a nose that is a bit snubbed, and brown hair. Moreover, she wears grey armor, with a visor helmet on her head.[3]

Personality

Mars is boisterous and relaxed in manner. She is insecure about her own appearance, as she never shows it in public, and instead prefers to cast illusions to make herself look attractive. She seemingly enjoys making other people uncomfortable by hugging them against her (fake) breasts.[4]

Mars is very confident in battle, and is always itching for a fight. Like the other members of the Seven, she is devoted to Flos, and has tried to seduce him several times.

Despite her combat ability, Mars is a poor tactician. At a strategy meeting, she was unable to understand Orthenon's battle plan, and usually relies on others telling her what to do.[5] She becomes sulky and mad when she is left behind to guard Reim, or when the others moved ahead of her.[6] As one of the world’s highest-level warriors, Mars is someone who doesn’t just fight on the battlefield but defines it. However, she has admitted to wishing that the other enemy soldiers would flee, so that she wouldn't have to kill them.

Background

Mars was born in Nerrhavia's Fallen and became a [Gladiator] in their arenas. She conquered the Coliseum of Monarchs, their most high-level arena, and became known as the Eternal Gladiator.[7] Her final match was against Omalt the half-Giant.[8]

When warring with Reim, Nerrhavia's Fallen sent her to fight Flos and his forces. He lost the duel against her and was forced to run. In Flos's own words, "It got hairy," until Mars decided to switch sides and became one of his vassals.[6]

Mars would be at the head of every charge, and crush the opposing army’s champion before each battle.[5]

Chronology

Powers and Abilities

A pure warrior, Mars is the strongest and the highest leveled of all of Flos's vassals. She has incredible amounts of stamina, having once fought one of Nerrhavia's Fallen's armies by herself for over seven hours.[7] Her defense is exceptional and can withstand the onslaught of hundreds of spells without a scratch. However, while she excels in combat, she is lacking in many other areas, making her rather inflexible. As a result, she is often employed only at specific times.[9]

  • According to Trey, Mars's illusionary form looks exactly like a supermodel altered in photoshop or out of an anime or video game, which is to say, stylized, unrealistic perfection of the female form…according to males.
  • Mars is not her real name, but rather the name she chose for herself.[7]
  • Her pale skin is from a lack of sunlight.
