Personality[edit | edit source]

Background[edit | edit source]

Chronology[edit | edit source]

Not happy that Wiskeria is not agreeing to join her for their coven meeting, she has been sending a raven as a messenger to get her to come. She would later send a flock of crows to again get her, or rather to threaten her, by having the flock swarm her. After Durene intervened to help Wiskeria, and Frostwing killed 2 crows, the flock would flee. Later Mavika would try one last attempt to get her, by animating a crow’s head, but Durene smash it.[3]

She would later go in person to Riverfarm, and unbeknown to everyone, witness Rehanna unjustly harassing Wiskeria, which prompt her to cast a painful spell on Rehanna for her rudeness. She then would reveal herself to everyone present, and after admit to them that she was the caster, she tells them that anyone scorning a [Witch]’s gift will pay the price in equal measure, like discourtesy with discourtesy. Then after Wiskeria calls her name, she would bow slightly and proclaim that she was the first one to arrive.[2]

Powers and Abilities[edit | edit source]

She is a strong powerful [Witch]. Her craft comes form superstition : "she was the literal [Witch] in people’s imaginations. And because they thought that and she confirmed it, she could do what they believed."[4]While she is not like a [Beast Tamer], she can make her ravens and crows talk, carry messages, listen trough them, and do other things. She is able to spy on events across Izril through her raven's eyes, for example, she was able to recount the vampire hunters' attack on vampires hiding in House Tellis' territory, far to the north of Riverfarm[5]. She also knows a bit of necromancy too, as she is able to still use her crows when they’re dead.[3] While she primarily uses crows, she also has control over other animals such as rats and snakes.[6]

She is knowledgeable about poisons, diseases[7] and curses[8]. Her familiar is named Sephraic, he usually looks like a crow but can transform into a much bigger creature, like a giant raven[6].

Mavika can fuse with her familiar to turn into a huge primordial avian[9] in order to fight and fly. She can burst into a shower of crows to quickly run away[10] and can ride a broom better than Alevica[11]. Her transformations are not limited to that however, she was able to partially transform her head to have owl-like features in order to avoid having her neck broken by a Hag Queen's magic.[12]

Mavika uses an ancient magic of wings[10], her affinity is really good with the wind, air and sky, thanks to her specialization, but in return she is less in touch with other elements such as not being able to hear a Water Elemental[13]. It also allows her to hear whispers in the wind [13] and sense Ryoka's own affinity with the wind, calling her "wind's child"[6].

  • Mavika remembers the last time the Circle of Thorns emerged, 2 generations ago.[6]
  • She is among the seven greatest [Witches] - of the modern age - known to Wiskeria. Califor was another of that caliber. Anazurhe is also of that level, but not known to Wiskeria.

Quotes[edit | edit source]

  • (To Wiskeria, via crow) “Wiskeria. Come.
  • (To Riverfarm’s folk) Remember this well, people of Riverfarm: Those who scorn a [Witch]’s gift must pay the toll. Discourtesy shall be matched with discourtesy, and ill for ill. In equal measure do we reap kindness or misery each. Such is humanity’s will.”
  • (To Ryoka) “Arrogance. What a strange, arrogant girl you are.”
  • (To Gaile) “Lower your axe, [Hunter]. Should Witch Wiskeria die, you will ere my crows fly.”
  • (To Laken) “I have knowledge of poison and ills. But gold does not motivate this [Witch]’s will.”
  • (To a Fomirelin) “Goblin, step aside. I seek the [Witch] of the Molten Stone tribe. Answer me with violence and die.
  • (To Anazurhe) “I will tell you of her death and what came after. Of an [Emperor] who sees nothing and all. Of Belavierr’s death that Califor took for her child. We will speak for a day, Anazurhe, then I leave you to your tribe. But first, a gift from the [Witches] of the Human tribes.
  • (To Laken) “Why did you call me, [Emperor] of men?”
  • (To Melidore) “We do not know your nature, strangers. You call us friend. But we do not remember. I do not remember, and I am second-oldest upon this land.”
  • (To Riverfarm’s folk) “A pact was sealed, and no one will break it. Not lamb or woman. Would you like me to show my displeasure on these little pests?
