I like making things easier for contributors dealing with formatting and citing, so that they can focus on contributions and adding actual content.

Curious about template documentations
Puregarnet | Posted on Dec 13, 2024 at 6:32 pm

Hi! Am a newbie and recently added some new pages for the latest chapters. Had a browse through recent changes and got curious. What do these contributions in Module:Ref and Template:VERef in your list of contributions mean? I clicked in and there is something about template documentation but it seems different for each page?

Hello! Welcome to the wiki!

the Module:Ref and Template:VERef pages work together to allow editors to make reference citations to TWI chapters easily. Module:Ref is a Lua module where I and other admins can input links to each chapter. An image showing the Cite button can be found here. A script that does this automatically for us everyday has been on my backburner for a while...

Documentation for Templates can be different per page, depending on who writes the documentation. I didn't add any documentation to either of those pages since they're just to support a background process and the only ones who have access are admins.

Hello :)

I've done a bit of fairly random editing, mostly spelling and grammar stuff of excellent pieces written by people who know what they're doing.

I thought I'd have a go at adding something to a fairly empty page about Nama. The words/text went okay, but I've messed up a bit with adding a reference link - I couldn't find instructions and my link now isn't part of a list as links are on other pages.

I don't know how to fix it, but thought it better to leave it 'as is' so there's at least a link there if somebody reads the page.

I obviously need to do a bit of learning, and wondered if you could help out by either explaining how I can add a link to a list or by ... just fixing it?

Sorry if I'm causing a bit of trouble, it's not intended.

It's this page, by the way https://wiki.wanderinginn.com/Nama

Hey! No worries at all. Editors of all skill levels are welcome and I'm happy to help and share tips.

There's two easy ways to add references to a page, and it comes down to whether you prefer to use the Visual Editor or the Source Editor(code) You can find a brief overview of how to add references for both editing options at the Style Guide.

If you use source editing and you learn better by example, I can fix the references on the page and you can checkout what code I added, just let me know what works best for you.

Also available by Discord if you prefer more communicating real-time-esque. Doesn't matter to me, I receive wiki notifications pretty quickly.

Thank you very much. I used the 'style guide' button as I haven't much of a clue about source editing. And it worked! :)
