Edge of the World

From The Wandering Inn Wiki

The Edges of the World, also called the Last Tide, are places where the sea ends in Innworld.

Background[edit | edit source]

In the past, there had been [Captains], [Sailors], and [Travellers] who had attempted to find the edge of the known world. Only one to a thousand ships ever return; those that do describe a "blackness which the water pours into, a place where light does not exist." There are stories that sometimes something comes up from edges. They are described to "kill all they encounter and die slowly, if at all."[1] One of those things had been A'ctelios Salash.[2]

In an age before the Dragons ruled, something came from beyond the edge of the world. It must have destroyed nations.

Blighted waters from Rhir flow west and north towards the edge of the world. People from Rhir told the American Group that it is a "great abyss from which no one returns."

The world is actually round, and the reason for the Last Tide's existence is that a piece of the world had been destroyed in the God War. The Drath Archipelago is all that remains of the continent that used to be there.[3]

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Because of the edge of the world, the inhabitants of Innworld believe that their world is flat.
  • Wailant from Izril possesses a map of the world where the ends are clearly marked.[4]
  • The Drath Archipelago the islanders live on is the closest to the end of the world. They know not to sail too far in one direction, lest they vanish forever.
