Orjin is a Human [Martial Artist] and the Strongest of Pomle.

Appearance[edit | edit source]

He has dark skin, blue eyes,[1] and is tall and heavy from muscle, not fat. He is hardened enough to not feel the ground's heat below his bare feet, and he doesn't sweat much.[2]

He dresses up for occasions with a bright, colored cotton skirt that a traveling merchant gifted him once, and a hide cape of an animal or monster.[2]

Personality[edit | edit source]

Orjin rarely display strong emotions, and will take most things at face value. He holds no real wants and needs, other than training and fighting. As the Strongest, he takes his role seriously in enforcing Pomle's Peace. However, he is reluctant in fulfilling his bureaucratic responsibilities, for which he usually relies on his [Secretary] Salii. Similarly, he is indifferent in anything except when it comes to fighting and testing himself. However, he is far from being apathetic, and is always engaged

In his youth, he had difficulty controlling his anger, and once killed a fellow martial artist in rage during single combat. In the present day, Orjin keeps a tight control over his emotions. He dislikes slavery, which he claimed to "offend his sensibilities", and will attack any [Slave] owner and release any [Slave] within his reach.[3] Additionally, he is averse to killing, often offering mercy to his opponents.[1]

Background[edit | edit source]

Orjin was born and raised in Pomle, and has been practicing martial arts from the time he could walk, into the prime of his life—which included the later thirties thanks to Skills.[4]

Eight years prior, he had challenged the current Strongest of Pomle and won, becoming the new Strongest.

Around five years ago, Salii arrived to Pomle and became Orjin's [Secretary].[2]

Chronology[edit | edit source]

After the Flos Reimarch's declaration of peace, Orjin oversaw the Conference of Pomle as a host. While he did not actively participate, he intervened in an altercation, single-handedly stopping both [Beast-Empress] Nsiia of Tiqr and [Hydromancer]-[Queen] Revine of Savere as they attacked each other.[2]

During the war against Tiqr, he asserted the neutrality of Pomle, allowing hundreds of refugees from Tiqr to enter Pomle. Later that night, he and some other warriors fought off a raid of Saverian [Rogues] and [Pirates].[5]

He forcibly freed some slaves of a Nerrhavian [Prince], inciting a war between Nerrhavia's Fallen and Pomle. Though the [Martial Artists] were able to fend off multiple armies, Pomle's oasis was destroyed by an artifact activated by General Thelican. Believing he had failed in his duties as Pomle's Strongest, Orjin stepped down from his role. While most of the other [Martial Artists] decided to continue the war against Nerrhavia's Fallen, Orjin sought out Torreb the Undefeated to search for an answer to what being a [Martial Artist] meant. He was accompanied by Spitty the Camel, and Soloxenethn the Fury of Skies.[6]

He stayed at Torrebs house for a few days, talking to Torreb and sparring with challengers and Torrebs oldest daughter and housekeeper Itkisa. He finally left without finding an answer to his question.[7]He also meets a puppet controlled by Nerrhavia who creates a Mythical Quest that would either reward Orijn or the Person who ends Pomle with a class worthy of Pomle.

On the way back to Pomle, Erin joins them on the flying carpet and also talks to him about his quest to find the core of his class. At some point, a Djinni ambushes them, but he flies off after they realize he was told to kill the "Strongest" of pomle - which was Vandum at that point - sparing Orijn.[8]

Quotes[edit | edit source]

  • (To Savere’s [Raid Leader]) “Step across that line and we will remind you why Pomle is free.”
  • (To Pomle’s masters) “We remember the past because of what it created. This. But the future we should always look towards because of what it could improve. We strive to be the best. Whatever that is—we should embrace. And watch, to make sure it is for the best.”
  • (To the Audience) “Ignorance. Law. These sound like excuses. I do not believe Lyfelt is innocent. Nor will I see him dead. However he is punished—let it be so. Give him to the families of the Gnolls, and that will be his death. Give him to the King of Destruction, and let that be his death. Or give him a chance for his own end. But he is guilty. That I cannot see the weight of it does not mean it is not there.”
  • (To Salii) “For all this time, you’ve asked me what I wanted. What I would do, what I willed. I never told you anything because I never wanted anything. I was happy with some changes. Not with the others. I didn’t inform you about this because I’ve always done as I thought I should.”
  • (To himself) “I did not train in Pomle this long, or with this much passion, to kill more efficiently.”
  • (To Stitch-man Gold-ranker) “I cannot hit you. If I do—I will kill you. Do you understand? I cannot exchange a blow with you. Because I will break every bone where I strike you and rupture your organs. And you—you cannot hurt me. I do not fear your fists. I do not fear your sword. You cannot make my blood boil.”
  • (To Gavros) “I am no King of Destruction. But I will stand here a while, Gavros of Ixen. For I find you worthy of respect.”
