Chapter 2.26

Seborn Sailwinds is a Drowned Man merged with a Crustacean, and a member of the Halfseekers, a Gold-rank Adventurers team.

Appearance edit edit source

He is a tall, gaunt man covered in a shell across half his body. One of Seborn's arms is segmented with dark fungus and a crustacean’s pincer instead of a hand. The other one appears to lack these fish-like aspects, which allows him to hold a dagger with it.[1] He has seaweed-greenish brown hair.[2]

Personality edit edit source

Seborn has a straightforward personality that causes him to not mince his words. While not entirely emotionless, he is deadpan most of the time, in sharp contrast with his more emotional teammates. He usually plays the straight-man, but will occasionally join in their antics. While he shares the Drowned People's dislike for pirates (of other species), he gets along with Wailant Strongheart, though was still obliged to punch him the first time they met.[3]

Background edit edit source

Seborn is a son of Therrium Sailwinds one of the most famous captains of the current seafaring era. He has two brothers. The older Drelef Sailwinds who is a known Captain. The younger, Buenec Sailwinds, is the best swordmaster in Therrium's fleet and is also a Captain. When they were younger Seborn mentored his younger brother while Drelef harassed Buenec.[4]

Seborn used to be a pirate in his father Therrium's crew, and worked for the promise of one day being given his own ship. After years of this promise not being fulfilled and his elder brother getting the ship he wanted, he left the crew and took the loot from the last raid, hiding it and swearing only to reveal its location if his father gave him his ship.[4]

He moved inland to avoid his father’s wrath and became an adventurer. He was recruited into the Halfseekers as a silver-rank, when their membership consisted of Jelaqua, Moore, Halassia, and Jiorf.[4]

Chronology edit edit source

Volume 10: edit edit source

After the battle against Kasigna, Seborn had struggled to cope with the aftermath and set off to go back to sea and studied sea maps, among them those he got from Erin's underwater garden at an inn for that purpose.[5]

In the following weeks,he tried to find a ship to buy along the coast of Northern Izril and visiting harbors. Among the places he visits are Litgren’s Bay, Treant’s Farewell, and finally Moodfut.

In Litgren's Bay, he helped a young half-elf, who was followed into a dark alley by a sailor. In Treant’s Farewell, he does buy a ship but is stopped by the Pride of Wellfar who control ships and ask for his registration, which he does not have and the Captain's Guild refused his efforts to register because of his affiliation with a known pirate Therrium. In Moodfut, He later met the half-elf again when he observes an angry fisher demanding more pay from her after rowing her to somewhere and she has run out of money. This half-elf turned out to be Tissl Venleather. He agreed to help her find the treasure the ghost of a long dead half-elf Captain Etroc told her about. They found the treasure, which consists of a magic doublet/jacket/cloak, an Orichalcum longsword and other gear as well as the chest.[4]

Quotes edit edit source

  • (To Erin) “I’m not a fan of cheese. Cows are…odd creatures. We don’t have things like them in the sea. Do you have anything less cheese related?
  • (To Jelaqua) “We were betrayed once. But remember what Ukrina said? ‘If we do not give other species a chance, what hope is there for the rest of the world?’ Once more, Jelaqua.
  • (To Jelaqua & Erin) “Bad idea. Lots of monsters like water and it’s a nightmare fighting them in those conditions. Take it from me. There’s a reason why I left the sea.
  • (To Jelaqua) “Because you’re an idiot?
  • (To Erin) “Let’s just say that they reminded us we’re not alone. It’s not pleasant, being called a coward.
  • (To Erin) “They’re the ones who never stopped diving into the abyss. Some of them are heroes. Most are just insane.
  • (To Erin) “We truly were thankful to meet you. Keep a table open. I still like seafood, you know.
  • (To Jelaqua) “You do it. I’m sick of idiots around here asking if I’m sick. I hate landlocked idiots who’ve never seen the ocean.
  • (To Moore) “We’ve been here for months, Moore. We need to get to work. Or what are we? We’re adventurers and our Captain’s missing.
  • (To Rufelt) “Tastes just like something I’d get in a port-city bar. Better, actually. The glass is clean.
  • (To Garia) “Did someone say [Pirates]?
  • (To the World) “I wasn’t a sailor. I was a [Pirate]. A member of the Undersea Crews. And I’m here to advertise my team. Hire the Halfseekers. There. I said it, Jelaqua.
  • (To himself) “Finally, some good food.
  • (To Moore & Ulinde) “I wish I were back at sea. Then we could just sink the bastards.
  • (To everyone) “I grew up on a ship. Sometimes, provisions rotted, and that was all we had. I’ve eaten actual green ham. No. And no.”
  • (To Storm Sailors) “I’ve had stranger allies. How about it? I don’t need to go far. Nombernaught’s where I’m bound. I have a date with destiny.”
