Taxus is a former Dwarf master [Smith], now living on the island of Hesheit.

Appearance[edit | edit source]

With a height of 5'3'', Taxus appears to be a very short Human. He has a squat build, with broad shoulders and large arms. He has a full head of brown hair and a thick beard that extends down to his chest. Although his beard is mostly groomed, there are salt stains on it. His face is craggy and lined and a few grey hairs hint at his age, which is over a hundred and thirty years old.[2]

Personality[edit | edit source]

Taxus is kind and generous, readily sharing his entire food supply with Solca without hesitation. He is methodical in his actions and often reminisces on faraway places with great fondness. Nevertheless, a sense of deep sadness and regret haunts him, and at times Taxus sits alone, weighed down by the past.[2] He cares deeply for his adopted daughter Chime, and was willing to send her away from Hesheit for a better life.

In the past, Taxus was considered to be one of two greatest [Smiths] alive along with Pelt Dooristone. Pelt claimed that they "grew fat and arrogant because we could hammer drunk better than an army of our ‘competitors.’"[3] After an incident that ruined an entire generation of [Smiths] which resulted in his exile from Deríthal-vel, he swore to never forge or wield tools again.[2]

Background[edit | edit source]

Forgemaster Taxus was once one of the best smiths in Deríthal-vel and the world, and was acclaimed as one of the only true smiths of Deríthal-vel in the last seven hundred years with Pelt. However, an incident resulted in them and several others being exiled in disgrace.[4]

Taxus moved to Hesheit, near the Last Tide. He swore never to create again, to touch hot metal or wield a hammer in forging, only using his talents for small repairs or bending items into shape. He would later adopt Chime, a half-Dullhan, as the native Dullahans shunned her.

Taxus would host Solca Vis in his abode when she was transported to Innworld.[2]

Chronology[edit | edit source]

Taxus fixed Solca's boat, and taught her about the system of classes and Skills, and the world at large. He also asks Solca to take Chime with her when she leaves.[2]

Powers and Abilities[edit | edit source]

Taxus was the most knowledgeable of Deríthal-vel's smiths on forging with magical flames.[3]
