Chapter 5.23 G is the 25th chapter of Volume 5 and the 3rd chapter of Book 8, Blood of Liscor.

Bethal finds Sir Kerrif, who stays with the Goblins. Pyrite takes over the tribe until Rags recovers. Rag takes the city Lancrel and sends the Redfang warriors to split up and raze the countryside.

The Goblins surrounding Lady Bethal and company mostly leave, and Bethal surrenders to the remaining Goblins in her search for her imprisoned Rose Knights. They pick their way through the routed Goblin camp, facing the destruction, before finding Kerrig. He debriefs to her about the attack. Pyrite sets Bethal and company free and schools her that Goblins can be different, that different tribes are different, and that “tears are a waste of water”.

Pyrite reorganises the Goblins while Rags remains unconscious. He triages and keeps the tribe together during a gruelling marsh through Laken’s domain as the Riders constantly harry the Goblins. Pyrite and Redscar come to clash over the latter’s desire to carry the battle to the Humans. They compromise to keep the peace, but the Goblins’ sally is annihilated.

Laken continues his harrying campaign as the Goblins approach Lancrel, a city that refuses to acknowledge Laken.

Pyrite comes to the conclusion that there’s some foul play with the Humans always knowing about weaknesses in the Goblin formations. The Goblins get attacked again after a scout detects a nearby Human army. Then Pyrite gets shot down too.

Rags wakes to a silent, disorganized, and cramped camp. Pyrite survived, barely, and informs Rags about the situation. She contemplates, then directs the Flooded Waters tribe to the city.

The Watch captain is dismissive of the attack, until Redfang warriors get flung onto the walls. They break through the defence and open the gates. Wiskeria aims to crush the Goblins against the walls before they can enter the city, but Rags expected that and executes an effective counter with her crossbows upon the charging cavalry. The Human citizens flee Lancrel as the Goblins rush through the walls.

Then she leads a sally with the Redfangs against the Blacksky Riders, employing Skinner’s fear gem to disrupt the opposing cavalry, only to disengage. recalling the constant attacks and unmitigated slaughter of her people she gives in to her rage and darkness and sends the Redfangs to raze the countryside and kill without mercy.

While speaking with Lady Magnolia through an enchanted artifact, Bethal opts out of any more Goblin killing. They briefly discuss the situation at large, but Magnolia admits to nothing, except that Lord Tyrion moves.
