Talenqual is a city on the southeastern coast of Baleros.

Overview and Geography[edit | edit source]

While the city is mainly populated by Lizardfolk, there are also prominent minorities of Humans, Dullahans and Centaurs, who all seem to enjoy the same rights as citizens, without any apparent restrictions. Buildings are commonly made of Lizardfolk-style mud-bricks or plain wood. New clinics have been created after the city fell under partial control of the United Nations company.

Paeth on the Coast's tree replaced the Featherfolk Brigade's headquarters, and has a thousand-foot area cleared around it. It's forbidden for non-authorized non-Fraerlings to be within that area. Paeth will issue a warning and threaten to use spells on those that enter, with disintegration spells being used within a hundred feet.[1]

Talenqual is not a capital city of any nation. It is a port city and just large enough to find its place on continental maps. The City Rower Luan can make the distance from Talenqual to the city of Ravelm in two days.[2]

It doesn't sit on rich resources, and is a relatively peaceful spot, which lead to the port becoming prosperous.

The nearby city of Bolandus is led by a Dullahan [Mayor].[3]

A nearby dungeon found recently in the jungle, turned out to just be a snake pit without treasure.

Because it was in proximity to the Fraerling city of Paeth, the Featherfolk Brigade burned a large portion of the jungle attempting to locate it.[4]

History[edit | edit source]

The United Nations company chose to make the city its headquarters[5], where they live in the rental houses of the Centaur [Landlady] Hastel.[6]

The United Nations founded the adventurer team the Bushrangers here and affiliated itself with the Rustless Guard[7].

As Luan was hired by Venaz to participate in the games of Daquin, he met several pupils of Niers Astoragon, and also solicited the skills of [Doctor] Geneva, who he claimed capable of healing Shailt. This might have gained the city some interest by Niers Astoragon himself.[8]

Talenqual is one of the many towns that got hit with the Yellow Rivers disease, and Geneva Scala convinced The Glorious Fezimet to take action against the quickly spreading illness. Her presence there also piqued the curiosity of Niers Astoragon.[3]

The Featherfolk Brigade joined the resurgent Jungle Tails company and attacked the Fraerling city of Paeth, who sought help from the United Nations company.[9] Under Peclir Im's orders, Featherfolk Brigade started burning the forrest in order to find the city. This caused riots in Talenqual due to ruining the livelihoods of citizens, made neighbouring companies who also used the forrest upset, and incurred threats from [Druids].[4]

The United Nations opposed them and sought allies to stop their aggression. While half of the Featherfolk Brigade was besieging Paeth, they presented a petition signed by nineteen companies that condemned the actions of the Featherfolk Brigade. Fezimet was also presented incentives to cease attacking in the form of Fraerling-made artifacts.[4]

When negotiations broke down, violence in the city began. The Bushrangers, Gravetender's Fist, and mercenaries hired by the [Strategist] students attacked. Umina brought in forces from the Iron Vanguard by the harbor.[4] The United Nations used their gunpowder stockpile to destroy barracks of soldiers, and eventually to bring down Fezimet's tower.[10]

This caused Fezimet to go berserk and rampage, killing and maiming anyone in his way. He was stopped when Paeth teleported into Talenqual, right where his tower used to be, and its spells killed him. The Featherfolk Brigade's morale finally broke then.[10]

Niers visited the city after it fell under new management. He met with his student Marian and they toured the city a bit before going to see the council. Fraerlings were interacting with the humans and teaching them. The council was introduced, but they opted not to be immediate allies to the Forgotten Wing Company.[1]

Government[edit | edit source]

The city was under the control and protection of the Featherfolk Brigade company, whose leader is the Quexal Fezimet.[11] That company can be considered one of the upper middle tier companies of Baleros - so not in the big leagues of the Four Great Companies, but powerful enough to hold and defend a large port city.

Their central government building was six stories tall and rises in the center of Talenqual. Fezimet likes to keep up to date on all business and events that occur in the city - not only because this helps him determine possible threats and impose his taxes justly.

After the battle of Talenqual and the appearance of Paeth in the city, it is now run by the joint Fraerling-Tallfolk Council of Paeth, made up of Paeth's Architects and the leaders of the United Nations company. The city is now under the protection of the Fraerlings, United Nations, and Gravetender's Fist. They have refused involvement from the Forgotten Wing Company, as to not be targeted by their enemies.[1]
