First Appearance |
Zineryr is a Gnome who lived during the War of the Gods.
Appearance[edit | edit source]
He has white hair dyed silver and combed into a frizzy spike, and pale silver eyes mixed with green spots. He is old with lines of age.
He wears what looks like a jumpsuit with pouches and zippers, and tinkerer's vest with old tools hanging. The collar and sleeves are strung with metal to lock gloves and a helmet in place. He wears all-terrain boots.
Personality[edit | edit source]
Like most Gnomes, Zineryr is generally jovial natured. He is intelligent and a trickster. He is aged, but does not act old at all. Though he shows sadness when thinking about the War and the pain and destruction it caused. He was horrified to learn the fate of Goblins.
He has mixed feelings about seeing someone regain Skills due to what the Gods' Grand Design had wrought, but found Erin's answer as to why she would like to keep them to be fair, even if it lacked context.
He dislikes playing chess against Dragons and Elves, the former because they're usually sore losers, the latter because they take too long to play.[1] He dislikes sacrificial magic, saying it was made by fools.[2]
He used to love Kasigna, out of all the gods, because she would've given him meaning in the afterlife. He was greatly disappointed to see she hadn't changed from the events of the War when she returned and she made the same mistakes.
Background[edit | edit source]
He was the first Gnome to ever see the stars, and built a vessel to defy gravity so he could go to space.
He fought in the War of the Gods and survived it. He lived thousands of years afterwards. He spent the last centuries of his life with the Fraerlings.[2]
Chronology[edit | edit source]
Volume 8[edit | edit source]
When Erin sounded her call for aid, Zineryr and the other 17 Gnome ghosts came alongside the ghosts of Baleros. They went to meet with her, in order to tell her the information she needs for when she returns to life.[1]
He gave a speech to the ghosts letting them do what they think is best after they regained their Skills and magic. He then escorted Erin on the back of Xarkouth. there, he finished the necessary exposition for her and directed her to find the safeguards left by the old races, handing her a map to those places. When Emerrhain shot down their ride, he and the other Gnomes set about distracting the Dead Gods away from Erin with tricks and insults - briefly stopping to direct them into destroying the future Nereshal.
As Emerrhain absorbed the Gnomes one by one until only Zineryr remained, he directed Enchanter Ilekrome to open The Last Box in Paeth. The Box was revealed to be a prison built to contain a God and trap them forever, which proceeded to lock Emerrhain within and disappear. He then directed the Fraerling in activating a [Grand Teleport] ritual spell for Paeth, using himself as magical fuel.[2]
Zineryr survived using his soul to fuel the teleportation spell, and returned as Kasigna unmade her realm to play one last trick on the Gods and see Erin off as she returned to life.[3]As the last soul left in Kasignel, he had one last chat with Kasigna, told one last joke, and was consumed by the Goddess.[4]
Volume 9[edit | edit source]
Zineryr's soul within Kasigna resisted being taken appart, keeping her from revealing his secrets. She eventually recreated him in order to question him and two other Gnomes. While he was under her influence, he still defied her.[5] Fearing what they might be capable of, Kasigna destroyed their souls, with Zineryr being the last to go.[6]
