Relationships[edit | edit source]
Erin Solstice[edit | edit source]
Lyonette's early interactions with Erin were mostly hostile. As a [Princess], she refuses to take Erin's offer on being an employee seriously, and is either intentionally hostile or incompetent in performing the tasks of a barmaid. However, her perspective drastically changes after Erin is pulled away to meet Magnolia and she is left alone in the inn. By the time Erin returns, Lyonette has mastered the basic skills of running the inn and gains newfound respect for all that Erin does.[1] While Erin's initial reaction to her skills was skepticism and criticism, after a tongue-lashing by Zel, the two reconcile.
After Erin hires Ishkr, Drassi, Safry, and Maran, Lyonette undergoes struggles to maintain control of the inn. She frequently clashed with Safry and Maran, human barmaids from Celum who do not respect the Drakes and Gnolls of the inn. During the climatic clash, she screams at Erin, revealing how hurt she was by Erin's continued disrespect as well as her lack of control over Toren, who frequently abused her. She runs away, believing that she would be once again fired, but Ryoka comes out and helps her get back on her feet, returning to the Inn.[2] Their relationship has become a lot better since then, as Lyonette is now treated as a full partner in running the inn, and is also responsible for managing its finances. She is usually the one to rein Erin when she is about to cause trouble. For instance, when Erin was about to go full John Wick when her faerie flowers were stolen, Lyonette points out that she could simply call the Watch. [3]
Mrsha[edit | edit source]
Lyonette begins taking care of Mrsha when Erin was gone from the Inn.[4] Lyonette raises Mrsha as her daughter, and Mrsha accepts Lyonette as her mother. Lyonette is extremely protective of Mrsha, and raises her to the best of her ability.
Pawn[edit | edit source]
Although Lyonette is initially terrified of the Antinium, she starts to change her attitude while she is alone in the inn. During that time, Pawn was the first person to become one of her regular customers, and Lyonette provides meals to Pawn's soldiers during their first excursion above ground.[5] She helps Pawn create the first batch of Painted Soldiers when Mrsha gets into paint cans and leaves white paw prints on a damaged soldier.[5]
Later, when Pawn goes through a crisis of leadership, Lyonette inspires Pawn to be a leader, even if he was unable to fight himself. She encourages Pawn with her knowledge of how [Queens] inspired armies, and teaches Pawn how to be more graceful in leadership.[2]
Her relationship with Pawn is further explored when she loses her [Princess] class. Pawn notices her gloom and visits her daily, praying for the return of her class. When Lyonette realizes that Pawn is trying to change her, she flies into a fit of rage, yelling at Pawn.[6] After Pawn puts on a ball for her, to regain what it feels like to be a [Princess], she realizes that Pawn loves her.[7] Since then, they entered a romantic relationship.
This relationship continued for months, but the death and subsequent return of Erin Solstice put a tremendous strain on it. Lyonette and Pawn went in separate directions to revive Erin, and when they came back, Lyonette realized that the two were too different. Pawn did not want to break up, but Lyonette did, and so they ended their relationship.[8]
Ryoka Griffin[edit | edit source]
Ryoka helps Lyonette stand up for herself after Erin returns and when Safry and Maran bully her, and Lyonette is thankful to her. When Ryoka runs away after Brunkr's death, Mrsha is distraught and wrongfully blames herself and her Doombringer nature for driving Ryoka away. Lyonette has to deal with the aftermath of Ryoka's abrupt departure on Mrsha, and her protectiveness results in her becoming very angry at Ryoka for the distress she caused Mrsha. This is further amplified when Ryoka send's Magnolia's Earthers to the inn, reopening old wounds for Mrsha, and when Ryoka returns to the inn, Lyonette slaps her and has to be pulled off her. Lyonette does recognize how important Ryoka is to Mrsha and her anger cools after her initial outburst.
Liscorian Gnolls[edit | edit source]
Lyonette's first interaction with the city is with Krshia, where she inadvertently destroys Krshia's stall, and the magic books hidden within it. She is outcast by the city, and the Gnolls shun her. However, she slowly returns to their good graces. With the help of Pawn as an intermediary, Lyonette offers Krshia a jar of honey and her apologies for what she had done.[9] Although she is banned from the city, she argues to reenter for the sake of Mrsha.[10] After Ryoka paid her debt, Lyonette is no longer shunned by them.
Krshia Silverfang[edit | edit source]
After Lyonette properly apologizes to Krshia, she is tolerated, and once Ryoka pays the debt, Krshia treats her normally. After Lyonette knights Brunkr and he is killed, Krshia tells Lyonette she is aware of of her [Princess] status, and promises to keep it a secret. She emphasizes the significance of Lyonette granting Brunkr's greatest wish before his death, and fully forgives her. Lyonette grants Krshia the [Royal Shopkeeper] class[11], and as their friendship deepens further, Krshia chooses to make Lyonette her "tribe-sister"[12], an honor she has given to no other human, including Erin or Ryoka. Krshia becomes one of Lyonette's best friends in Liscor, and a confidante. Lyonette tells her about her class, levels and skills, in addition to discussing her relationship with Pawn in a way she can't with Erin. Krshia also allows Lyonette to use the Rihal spellbook to learn a spell with [Magnified Training]. Krshia additionally credits Lyonette for adopting and raising Mrsha.
Brunkr[edit | edit source]
When Brunkr arrived in Liscor after the destruction of Krshia's shop, he immediately attempted to kill Lyonette in Erin's inn, by was prevented from doing so by Erin, Toren, Griffon Hunt, the Halfseekers, the Watch, and Krshia. He remained extremely antagonistic to Lyonette, desiring retribution for her actions, until Erin helped treat his infected hand and saved it from amputation. He then agreed to train Lyonette in sword fighting to repay her. While teaching Lyonette, he confided to her that his dream was to become a [Knight] but that he could likely never achieve that since it would be highly unlikely that he could find a [Lord] to grant him the class. When taking a break from the lesson, Lyonette turns away and whispers the words to grant Brunkr the [Knight] class in her capacity as a [Princess][13]. Despite her turning away and whispering the words, Brunkr hears them, so when he wakes up the next day with the [Knight] class he knows how he obtained it. He is extremely thankful to Lyonette for this, but he is murdered by Venitra before he can properly thank her and before their friendship can develop further.
