First Appearance

Chapter 8.78 F

Sprigaena was an Elf from the days of the War of the Gods, and one of the ancestors of Half-Elves.

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Sprigaena has fair skin and bright, pale blonde hair, described as "like the light fell on daffodils on a hot summer's day".

Before the War of the Gods, she was barefoot and wore clothes made out of plants that do not have any stitching or cloth. During the War, she was armored in harsh metal, and her braided hair was darkened with blood. After the War she wore beautiful rich clothes made by mortals, with a crown of perfected metal inlaid with a gemstone a thousand Dragons would fight over.[1]

Personality[edit | edit source]

Initially devoted to the Gods, after spending millennia in Kasignel and seeing what they had wrought, Sprigaena feels immense sorrow and guilt over having fought for them. She is furious at Tamaroth attacking those he once swore to protect, and felt despair over him showing no remorse for his actions.

Background[edit | edit source]

During the War of the Gods, Sprigaena fought on the side of the Gods and their Grand Design. She has shed the blood of other gods and every race that existed at the time except for one (likely Goblins). After the War, she ruled as a queen over much of Terandria, married a Human,[2] and hunted down those that had sided against them, such as the Gnomes.

Once she died, she would deeply regret her decision, seeing the Gods she championed preying on the souls of the dead.

Chronology[edit | edit source]

Sprigaena answered Erin's call with the ghosts of Baleros. She cast her blade, Elfbane, into the Last Tide to lure the Timewalker.[1] She battled against it and the Seamwalkers.[3]

After fighting against the Timewalker and the Seamwalkers for some time, Cauwine would convince her to enter her heart, and merge into a part of her instead of being merely absorbed.[4]

Powers and Abilities[edit | edit source]

Although Sprigaena possesses no levels or Skills, but has achieved the heights of martial prowess, having taken countless thousands of years to master her talent.[4] Capable of slaying lesser Seamwalkers with ease, she is the foundation of the blade-Skills in the Grand Design.

Equipment[edit | edit source]

  • Elfbane (Sacrificed): A sword which Sprigaena used to kill members of nearly every single race and even wounded or killed Gods with. These acts gave the sword power even in death.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

Quotes[edit | edit source]

  • To the Ghosts:
    • I am Sprigaena, the Traitor. The Last Elf, who lived beyond my children. Who turned against my kind, took up arms and fought alongside God and mortal alike! I, who saw my people end and slew kin and friend alike in service to what I thought was good and worth saving.
    • I have had eternity to regret my mistakes. I beheld what became of the world after all I was promised and fought for, and I saw only ash. Ash, and the world they made as they laid laws in the very foundation of magic and the nature of our souls. I remained and have seen it all, as the ghosts of this world were preyed upon by the very ones who once swore to guide and shelter them. Now I take up arms. One last time. To atone with a single pebble for the endless shore of my guilt. To arms, Baleros. Wake, dead! Take up arms and fight, for this is the last battle of death.
  • (Declaration) “This is the blade that has been drenched in the ichor of gods! It has slain my kin and every other race living save one, for I was not craven enough to murder children. It is my sin and weight—and even death itself cannot erase it! Elfbane! A fell blade for the greatest traitor.
  • (To the Timewalker) “The blood of the world I cast to ye. The sting of a blade that even Gods feared, I sacrifice. You who slumber there—rise. You, who ate of the flesh of the God of Time, Iyedoth himself—rise. Climb, Devourer of Gods. If there is to be an end of your kin, let truly nothing remain. Not even the divine.”
  • (To Erin and Ghosts) “Go, mortal child! Go, child of Earth! Bear warning to any who will listen. To arms, spirits of the dead! Do not let that one die!
  • (To herself) “Plans and secrets and tricks. I am the spirit of regrets and mistakes. My gift to this world was only slaughter. My children will never know my face, only the heritage of a traitor. One last time—for a cause I know is right, I will fight.”
  • (To the [Blademaster]) “Isn’t it a little fair? To let those without eternity touch what they will never reach? Or will they never stand tall with it? We argued so long…” “—Lift your blade. Even if it is corrupted and cursed and stolen. We must fight. One last time. I could never have done any of it alone.”
  • (To Tamaroth) “I was. Yet when we were poised on victory, even then you had no mercy. Afterwards, I walked among a world built on your Grand Design and saw the broken realms from the war close every gate. We have left nothing but destruction. How can you not weep for it?”
