Synopsis edit edit source
After leaving Afiele, Cara joined a Gnoll [Merchant] caravan on its way to Meronome. Despite not being used to non-Humans, she ingratiated herself with the friendly members. Using her [Actor] Skills, Cara has been behaving like one of the hands, leading the Gnolls to treat her like one of them, instead of a paying guest.
The Gnolls show Cara some of their goods, which include various goods from Izril and different Terandrian kingdoms, along with eighteen caskets filled with high quality gems from Salazsar. Tired from keeping secrets and burdened from her ordeals with the [Necromancer], Cara tells the Gnolls her real name, Sidhaeg. However, they don’t really believe her, due to how she told them, with Cara ironically surmising that she’s better at lying than telling the truth. They are more sympathetic when Cara reveals her desire to earn a place, which is why she is headed to Meronome to start her career as a [Singer] at the Synphasia Theatre.
Parting way with the Gnoll caravan in Meronome, Cara tries to find an inn, but is stunned by the expensive prices. While hoping to do some menial work in exchange for a room, she is dismayed that most of the inns employ Helpful Servants, who perform nearly all of the menial labor in Noelictus, similar to a concierge service. She manages to secure a week’s stay at Innkeeper Catorn’s inn, who brings the [Singer] up to speed on Noelictus’ sights and amenities.
Cara tours Mereonome. In contrast to the gloomy charm of Afiele, Meronome is a “festival of lights that had no end and plenty of diversions.” Despite having some fun, Cara accidentally drops her phone, breaking the screen. Faced with a dwindling supply of coins, she signs up for an audition at the Synphasia Theatre.
Cara is confident that Earth’s songs would draw in an audience. However, faced with a new reality where Skills can provide multiple vocals and background music, she goes to the Mage’s Guild to research enchanting. While dismayed at the expensive costs and low reliability of the local [Mages], Cara is delighted to find that she can [Repair] her smartphone, with the added bonus of recharging the battery. Suddenly, the phone begins broadcasting a conference chatroom. Cara runs away, while the [Mages] realize that she’s one of the Earthers that Wistram is looking for.
