Volume 1 of The Wandering Inn began on July 27th, 2016 with Chapter 1.00 and ended on March 4th, 2017 with Chapter 1.45. This volume introduces us to the main character of Erin Solstice as she is teleported to another world from Earth and opens The Wandering Inn. In addition, the character Ryoka Griffin is introduced, as another female human who became a Runner in the city of Celum.
Erin doesn't meet the second main character Ryoka within the first volume - the runner's story arc deals with her aggressively distrustful nature as she meets many powerful persons, but cannot become friends with anyone. Significant events for her are her shattered leg, her avoiding talking to Magnolia and then her run into the High Passes, where she meets Teriarch who tasks her with a delivery that proves too difficult on the first try.
Theme[edit | edit source]
The primary theme of this volume is on the growth of Erin from a lonely stranger in a new world into someone who begins to make a name for herself. Many of the early chapters deal with the minute details of day-to-day survival in a world with levels, magic, and monsters. It is during this chapter that several key parts of Erin's personality, such as her aversion to killing monsters, including Goblins, as well as her aptitude for playing chess is introduced.
Important Characters[edit | edit source]
This volume introduces us to the majority of characters from the city of Liscor, including Senior Guardsman Relc Grasstongue and Senior Guardsman/Antinium Revalantor Klbkch, who are the first two characters to meet Erin at the inn. Other Liscorians introduced in this volume include Pisces, Olesm Swifttail, Krshia Silverfang, Selys Shivertail, Pawn, Ksmvr, Watch Captain Zevara Sunderscale, Rags, and Toren. From Celum, characters introduced include Fals, Garia Strongheart, Magnolia Reinhart, the Silver Swords, and the original Horns of Hammerad. From across the world, Flos has his debut, as well as the Americans.
