Firearms

From The Wandering Inn Wiki

Firearms are a type of weapon that use rapidly combusting chemicals to create a controlled explosion, using the pressure to launch a projectile at high velocity. It is unknown to Innworld, but has started seeing development due to the increasing influence of Earthers.

Innworld-created Firearms[edit | edit source]

Roshalian Guns[edit | edit source]

The first firearm invented in Innworld. A personal single-shot handheld weapon that relies on Skills for accuracy. It is made of enchanted metal tubing with magical runes inscribed down the barrel’s length, set into Sascrel wood. It has a fat and wide-barreled tube, and uses paper cartridges as ammunition, and the bullets can be cursed. To fire, pulling the trigger moves a hammer to touch a glowing red gem.[1] The weapons are enchanted to self-destruct to prevent capture.[2]

Chronology[edit | edit source]

As Earthers came to Innworld, many began talking about firearms to the inhabitants.

The United Nations company debated creating firearms and other blackpowder weapons to better protect themselves. Paige became a [Blackpowder Engineer] and began producing the substance, which they stored and was occasionally used by the Bushrangers for bombs, which they employ as a last resort.[3]

Flora is is an Earther that was carrying a .357 Magnum Revolver when she was transported to the Demon Kingdom. She used it during Silvenia's assault on the Fifth Wall to aid Bazeth by attacking Uxel and killing Vorn.[4]

Yazdil Achakhei has been capturing Earthers and probing their minds for information. With this, he began development on firearms, assigning a member of the Mad Ones to the task. There were setbacks when experimentation with other alchemical ingredients such as blazepowder resulted in accidents that reduced the team of over thirty [Alchemists] and assistants down to five. They've been testing designs for cannons with barrels made of different materials, such as Mithril, Dwarfsteel, and enchanted wood. Yazdil also ordered handheld versions to be made as well.[5]

Among the knowledge and Earth technology Kevin told the Flooded Waters Tribe about was guns. Though he didn't know how to make any kind of gunpowder or the precise mechanisms of a gun, so the development of firearms is a long-term project.[6] They've since learned the ingredients of blackpowder.[7]

A soldier from Earth, Jackson Carver, was betrayed by a Lizardfolk village,[8] and his weapons were given to the Jungle Tails company, potentially among other Earth weapons they may have obtained. The Jungle Tails could not understand or recreate any of the modern weaponry, but they developed classes to use them. Two firearm wielders were dispatched as part of a force to kill Foliana, but she ambushed them. The weapons were destroyed and the wielders killed, but they still managed to grievously injure the [Rogue].[9]

The United Nations company used their stores of blackpowder explosives against the Featherfolk Brigade while fighting them in Talenqual. They used them to wipe out garrisons before they could join the fighting, and to topple Fezimet's tower.[8]

Various nations have been noted for starting to import sulfur, implying they were attempting to develop or manufacture basic firearms.

It is heavily implied that Yazdil finalized a handheld design and began producing it in larger quantities. He presented an example to the Emperor of Sands to secure an alliance with them, providing the Empire of Sands with the weaponry.[10]

Roshal's forces that attempted to abduct several people as soon as the Winter Solstice ended were armed with the new weapons. Twenty-four guns were used to shoot Magnolia and Ressa. The Face Yoreth also shot Kevin and Imani with two guns, killing the former and putting the latter in critical condition.[1] None of the guns were recovered from deceased [Assassins], which had self-destructed.[2]
