Krakens

From The Wandering Inn Wiki

Krakens are among the most dangerous and feared Monsters of the sea.

Overview[edit | edit source]

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Krakens are giant cephalopod-like monsters. They can grow to insane sizes, reaching miles in length,[1] may have a hundred tentacle appendages and that their blood is purple.[2] Their arms have mulpiple beaks on them.[3]

Adult Krakens have multiple hearts,[4] and also multiple brains, in each mile-long tentacles.[5]

Power and Abilities[edit | edit source]

Krakens are extremely strong as they can drag down a ship or crush an unenchanted one, without difficulty. In fact the largest known Kraken had sunk a fleet of 200 enchanted Antinium warships, all while battling against the True Antinium and over a dozen of Centenium.[2] Even the strongest Centenium, Wrymvr the Deathless could not best the Kraken, only survive it.[6]

They are able to strike their tentacles underwater to create a shockwave. They are able to regenerate, and a damaged or dead tentacle will be healthy again in moments if it wasn't severed.[3]

Krakens can live for millenia. While it is not confirmed it is said that Krakens could defeat and eat Dragons. Or that a Dragon was what it took to defeat them.[7] The oldest Krakens have fought Dragonlords.[3] As such even veteran [Storm Captains] would rather fight an Adult Creler at sea than a Kraken, as it is said that nothing survives a Kraken attack. Or if they do then they’re the truest [Sailors] of the sea.[7]

Still as strong as they are, a pod of Tearwhales could bring down a Kraken, but only if there were enough of them.[7] Also while it is not confirmed, it is stated in ancient stories that a single warrior or hero over Level 70 can slay Krakens single-handedly.[8]

They also seem to have great hearing as even while they are asleep deep down in their lairs, which are miles deep in a vast trench, they can still hear loud sounds that originates from all the way up to the sea surface.[7] They can learn to speak tones that shift the sea. They are highly magical creatures and it is stated that they can sense magic, like someone casting [Message] in Kraken’s Pass.[5] They can even learn to dispel magic, which is how they could fight Dragons on equal grounds.[3]

Krakens can be clever, inventive, and adaptive. They are able to multitask with their many arms.[3]

Habitats and Lairs[edit | edit source]

Kraken are sea based creatures that inhabit and hunts in the deeps. When they hunt their preys, such as Sea Serpents, they will cash them all the way to the surface.[9] It is at this time when they are on the move that is the most dangerous for everyone else, as they can attack in any place the sea’s deep enough.[7]

They make their lairs in a vast, vast trench, miles deep, which is called Kraken’s Pass. In their lairs there is always at least one Kraken asleep. Krakens protect their nests by creating walls of protective bile, which are harder than steel.[3] Everyone from sailors to Drowned People stay away from them, and remain as quiet as possible, lest they awaken a Kraken and be attacked by it.[7]

Kraken’s Pass is so dangerous that not even Teriarch, an ancient Dragonlord, believed that he couldn't dive in and hope to emerge unscathed.[10]

Behaviour[edit | edit source]

Krakens are known to hibernate for centuries.

Krakens lay clutches of eggs when reproducing. They will rear young Krakens for a while.[3]

Chronology[edit | edit source]

Krakens have waned like many other species, but are still considered extant. They have learned not to challenge the last Treants.

During the True Antinium sea fleet voyage, the largest known Kraken called Old Hungry[3] was awoken by Lidera in her last act as a Luminary[11] to attack them during a storm. It caused the deaths of 16 of the Centenium, with Galuc being one of them as he dove into the oceans to tear the Kraken’s tentacle off. It also caused Klbkch to lose his true form, and sank 200 warships containing the other true Antinium within, leaving only 4 battered, sinking ships, with less than 20 junior Queens. Thus this Kraken attack caused the second greatest defeat for the Antinium since their First Queen fell.[2] Old Hungry later died from something tearing into him and destroying many of his hearts. His body lies amids shipwrecks and has fed generations of fish since.[3]

The last three Kraken attacks on a coastline happened in Cenidau, Rhir, and Izril. In Cenidau, the Kraken was fended off with the notable contribution of Gorethem, who would earn his nickname of Krakenblood from the event. In Rhir, the attacking Kraken was slain by the Blighted Kingdom. In Izril, the Kraken lost a tentacle to a Goblin tribe, who would devour it and be known as the Kraken Eater Tribe.[3]

The Emerald Signet travelled through Kraken's Pass while travelling to different diving locations. They encountered a Goblin ship there, but neither side initiated combat, as they had to stay quiet to not attract a Kraken. The ships left Kraken's Pass without issue.[7]

While the Sea Courier, Seve-Alrelious, was sailing trough Typhoon Erannda to deliver the Occillium, he sees a Kraken’s tendril shoot across the water and seize a Sea Serpent down to prey on. Seve would then send a Krakens at sea [Message] to warn the other Couriers doing the same delivery.[9]

The Krakens would be disturbed by the raising of Izril's New Lands, which altered the underwater geography, and by Belavierr travelling underwater, whose presence caused them nightmares while they hibernated.[12]

One adult male Kraken tried to hunt Belavierr for a week as she travelled undersea, but he could not inflict any damage to her. Eventually, the [Witch] distracted him with a puppet while she went to his lair and killed his children. When the Kraken realized what happened, he furiously destroyed the puppet then fled in terror while Belavierr taunted him and followed after him.[3] The Kraken surfaced and lashed out at the assembled fleets during the Night of Bloodtear, eventually being killed by the combined attackers.[13]

Usage[edit | edit source]

Kraken’s Teeth[edit | edit source]

Kraken's Teeth can be used as ingredients for alchemy.[14]

Kraken’s Hearts[edit | edit source]

Kraken’s Hearts, like Kraken's Teeth, can be used as powerful magical ingredients for alchemy.[15]

Kraken’s Hearts are extremely expensive, as one could buy a 3 star, renowned Inn and still have change to spare for the price of one.[4]

Kraken’s Eyes[edit | edit source]

A Kraken’s Eye can be used as a unique Golem Hearts that produces mana.[16]

Kraken’s Hide / Flesh[edit | edit source]

High-Level [Tanners], like Shedrkh the Keeper of Hides, can make armor out of Kraken’s Flesh.[17]

Krakenhide armor can withstands fire and acid attack with ease,[18] and the extra tentacle appendages on the armor can move and attack on their own.[19]

Kraken’s Ivory[edit | edit source]

Kraken's Ivory can be used to make blades and shields. These ivory weapons can tear through webs as tough as steel like they were just normal spiderwebs.[18]

Kraken’s Meat[edit | edit source]

Kraken's Meat taste good when barbecued and dipped in a spicy sauce.[1]

Kraken's Blood[edit | edit source]

A small amount of Kraken's blood is used to make a highly strong alcoholic drink, known as Krakenblood Rum. It is so strong that it is said that it could knock a [Drunk] out. Still people who have the [Hydromancer] Class or equivalent, can drink it without being knock out.[20]
