Auras
More actions
Auras are a projection of a person's authority, as well as their innate personality, beliefs, and willpower made manifest.[1] Described as the soul unbound, leaking from the body, by Piortesenzth.
Users edit edit source
While auras are said to be possessed by everyone,[2] Aura Skills are primarily the domain of [Ladies] and [Knights].[3] Strong auras are common among royalty and nobility, though higher-leveled individuals of any class can gain an Aura Skill. Like magic or natural skills, it's possible for a Rulebreaker to gain an aura.[4]
Usage edit edit source
Auras are brought out by a person projecting their personal will, confidense, authority, or sense fo identity, and may be used subconsciously.[5] Due to this, trying to project an aura out of insecurity will just weaken it. It's possible for it to be as large as to cover an entire nation.[6] Auras can be used to influence the actions of others, see the User in an inspiring image, or inflict terror and other emotions. The powers of an aura are informed by the user's class, with some auras being superior over others. To defeat an aura, the user must be forced into break their own rules.[3][7] Rulebreakers are also able to resist auras.
Potency and Concentration edit edit source
Potency is the strength of an aura, and increases with the user's level.[7] For example, auras are said to not be the purview for [Strategists]; but Niers Astoragon, a Level 66 [Strategist] possesses an aura the size of a Giant, despite being untrained in aura manipulation.[8] Potency is also influenced by the user's class. Monarchs have more naturally potent auras than [Lords] and [Ladies] by virtue of hierarchy. They are good at being forceful without training and have less need to hone their auras, making them innately better at basic aura use, while giving them a natural defense against rival auras.[3] The domain of the user's authority can affect potency. For example, an [Innkeeper]'s aura will be stronger within their inn than outside of it. Yet a trained User can use their on anything they can see, even across the world.[9]
The first part of Aura training, refinement and control, is learning to gather and concentrate the aura.[10] By consolidating one's own aura, it serves as defense against other auras.[7] When mastered, even weak auras can resist most other Auras. Offensively, concentrating one's aura can allow the User to harm incorporeal beings such as Djinni,[11] Daemons,[12] and Wisps.[13] It can be refined to a razor's edge.[6] Auras can also be used to read the nature of other auras,[14] and physically affect objects and people. For example, [Ladies] of Izril use it in combination with [Deft Hand] to physically shove others.[3] With advanced control, an aura can be used to warm a target, even without a fire affinity.[15]
Manifestation edit edit source
There are three stages of advanced aura manipulation: Manifestation, Materialization, and Conceptualization.
Manifestation allows to user to make their aura visible, create images, or even shield their bodies.[5] It is like a second instinct, a powerful commanding presence that can withstand mental compulsion.[10] One method of Manifestation is the creation of an aura-decoy, where the aura is reformatted to create an illusion.[15]
Materialization lets the user create objects out of the aura or change their properties, such as conjuring a weapon or element.[10]
Conceptualization is the creation of a complete zone of authority that even magic fails before the very concept of the aura.[10] It is rarely achieved.
Notable Groups edit edit source
- The Flowers of Izril, [Ladies] of the North, are considered among the greatest aura experts in the world. They notably displayed impressive feats with their Auras like fighting off Velan when he assaulted First Landing at great cost in what would be known as the Sacrifice of Roses, and banishing the most powerful [Witch] in the world, Belavierr, from their lands.
- The Order of Seasons are a [Knight] order that are specialist at Aura manipulation and using it in combat. They can display Materialization,[10] and are said to have learned from the [Ladies] of Izril in antiquity.[3]
