Interlude – Thereafter is the 70th and final chapter of Volume 5, as well as the 22nd and final chapter of Book 9, Tears of Liscor.

The goblins, antinium, adventurers, drakes, humans, Az'Kerash, Toren and Ryoka (hearing the news in Reizmelt) reckon with the aftermath of the fighting around Liscor.

Niers, Rhir and the Marquin family make plans for the future.

The few thousand surviving Goblins congregate in the High Passes and meet greydath, who tells them he let's tragedies like this happen to "train up" a new Goblin King and maybe have them find Velan's treasure at the top of the High Passes

Pawn mourns the dead antinium and the painted soldiers decide whether to have yellow splatters revived.

Ilvriss finds Osthia alive and they decide to go after Az'Kerash.

Laken takes the surviving Goblins from the battlefield north with him

The antinium send their combined army back, but decide to compete the tunnel linking Liscor to the other Hives.

Ceria visits Calruz in jail.

Toren is collecting thousands of dead bodies to create undead

The Halfseekers burn Garen's body

Magnolia and her [Ladies] reflect on the consequences of their stopping Tyrion. The circle of Thorns, supported by the threatened nobles, prepares to move against her.

Niers makes preparations so he can visit Erin in Liscor.

Lyonette's parents have seen her on the Scrying spell and plan to bring her home

Rhir prepares for a second ritual to summon Earthers

Ryoka is working as a city runner around Reizmelt and staying in an inn with a fist fighter, a vampire and a former adventurer
