Interlude – Barelle the [Bard] is the 108th chapter of Volume 10.

The Kingdom of Nerrhavia's Fallen wait for the arrival of the Horns of Hammerad to their lands with Barelle the [Bard] not being that excited about them.
After Barelle leaves the Court of Silks, [Prince] Zenol follows him along to their destination of an empty bar where they meet Cognita.
They speak on if the world have truly left the Waning Era and the failings Barelle has had after leaving his retirement.
Cognita speaks on the four master that she has had and how they've all failed, she leaves the bar wishing for a master since that was how Zelkyr designed her to be.

Those of Nerrhavia's Fallen are near fanatical for the arrival of the Horns of Hammerad on their lands after their story throughout Chandrar which has outstripped any other tale that originates from one of their own, the reason for that is because the people of Nerrhavia's Fallen compares any deed someone from their own has done which falls flat to what the Immortal Tyrant or Merindue has accomplished. A few in the Royal Court anxiously wait for the Horns to arrive at the Court of Silks while others gossip about the Adventurers as if their wars with eight other countries were unimportant, the rising tension between the classes of cloth was clear to Barelle as he writes it in his notebook with many of the highborn there wanting his attention. A Gossiper asks the [Bard] if he'll perform for the Horns but Barelle says that there would be no challenge the Horn could face within the country that could be worthy enough to satiate the kingdom for long, after he leaves Emira Otelline falls to poisoning but doesn't dies due to Barelle stopping her from finishing her drink.

As Barelle was walking out of the palace of Tyrant’s Rest, [Prince] Zenol catches up to him to follow him around to his destination, they enter an empty bar where they find Cognita there. Taking a seat next to the Truestone Golem Barelle starts a conversation with Cognita about the Half-Elves he would've liked to meet when he was in retirement and the current age, while Barelle agrees with Cognita's views that true change hasn't fallen into the world yet that wouldn't the Earthers bring about some change. She replies that in the aftermath of whatever the Earthers change the Waning World into something better but that it could also bring another Long Night which is more likely to happen in her estimates, Barelle takes out his magical harp speaking on how many great events he has missed since his journey out of retirement always a step behind great revelations. He has made peace with failing to capture each story bringing up his contention with the television and how it boosted the Horns to more than what they are, he starts to play a song that conjures the image of when Orchestra conquered the Chalice Dungeon or when the Forgotten Wing Company was created after surviving the Labyrinth of Souls.

He lists the names of people who's stories he failed to capture—whether it be his past biasing his views or just being at the wrong place and time to not catching the hints—and then asks Cognita what she is searching for, she seeks a facsimile of what she had similar to Zelkyr but has failed every time. Her first master Boiregon used her to develop his Yellat farms which made him rich but she soon left after he begged her for sex, she left her second master after he embezzled money away from his charity's coffers. Her third was a female [Golem Artificer] from Illivere who tried to destroy her after becoming erratic in failing to understand the fundamentals of her creation, her last master Itreilld felt the most like Zelkyr to her as his demands increased to improve his station but she recognized that she only found nostalgia with him. Cognita wipes away a tear falling from Barelle's eyes as he believes that he has failed her saying that she does not have to have a master, she answers that she wishes for a master as that is how he created her to be as she leaves the bar.
