Interlude — Saliss the Architect is the 9th chapter of Volume 10.

  • Saliss causes a massive explosion when he was making something with Seith, High Command brings the [Alchemist] to their headquarters for interrogations but seeing that they are handling him the wrong way he lambaste them.
  • Before High Command does anything Saliss has Mirn decamp from Pallass to Oteslia by falsely presenting that he, Saliss, is immigrating to the Walled City of Growth.
  • Saliss hides away in the basement of The Wandering Inn getting pestered multiple times, Rose comes down to begin her efforts for the Turnscales cause speaking to him about LGBT issues from Earth.
  • Saliss dismisses Rose many times as she is weak and doesn't have a true understanding of the risk involved but lightens up after seeing her pure, resolute desire to help.
  • Saliss storms into the Watch House in Pallass telling Watch Captain Qissa directly in a threatening manner that whatever his cousin Onieva does that he'll be on her side on the matter.
  • Rose, in her radical formal attire, meets up with Saliss to hit up the Turnscale scene of Pallass.

Saliss is currently making a potion with the volatile Seith while in a state a sleep deprivation and full of thoughts on how he should better make use of his time, his mind shifts to what Chaldion had done during the Winter Solstice Conflict with his suicidal charge right when his mixture explodes. Saliss sits within the secret headquarters of High Command speaking his mind out to the observing leaders of Pallass about what they should do, he can plainly see that High Command is going about dealing with him all wrong as [Major] Howkless begins throwing threats at Saliss. The [Alchemist] starts to elucidate to the [Major] and the others listening in on what would happen if they went through with their threat of arresting Mirn for no justifiable cause telling them to read his file for the answer, he leaves them a present as he departs.

Before High Command can get things going, Saliss takes Mirn aside from his job to tell the [Protector] what just happened and to put Turnscale activities on lockdown for now. The two of them get ready for the [Protector's] getaway but it the meanwhile Mirn mentions that he's been babysitting this kid who he thinks might be one of them, Saliss slaps him with the cruel reality they live in before he enters both the Alchemist's and Adventurer's Guild to inform them that he's quitting. In the Mage's Guild, Saliss turns in immigration papers for Oteslia and then leaves in a fast-moving carriage out of the Walled City. Saliss arrives at Oteslia with Shaerrha there to greet him, he then gets escorted by Mivifa to her house who finds out that the Drake is in fact Mirn transmogrified as he needed to get away from Pallass for now.

Rags was gushing about the new crossbow from the gift Calescent received as Gothica was sequestering herself in the basement to scare Ishkr when she gets scared at the sight of a Drake in her hiding spot, Saliss was working on his Inferno gel formula wondering what's happening in The Wandering Inn with all the gold he can see. The Earthers discuss if Rose is ready to start making a difference with her lacking levels as they all watch Erin on the scrying orb with Chaldion in the background in his vegetable-like state, Saliss continues to wait for High Command's reaction until he gets interrupted by Mrsha checking up on him. He can see her naivety about the fate of Doombearers being solved and, unable to hold himself back, begins to clarify that what was done to Gnolls is only the beginning of the machinations Drakes have against her kind, Nanette tries to butt in as well but swiftly retreats after being called out by Saliss.

Rose then comes in who starts to speak out her thoughts about what she should be doing to help the Turnscale cause before Saliss yells at her to go back to Adetr since she's unwanted and useless here. He allows her to stay to say her piece with her beginning to share about the Gnolls' secret of the [World of You and Me] skill and the history of LGBT+ rights back on Earth. Saliss cuts in questioning how she fits into all of this with her explaining that she's bi, he discredits her calling herself a Turnscale which only makes her angry at the plain dismissal of her being. Defusing the tension, Saliss moves onto what he and the other Turnscales used to do before he cut a deal with Chaldion for an uneasy truce explaining that he was tired of trying to murder his way to a solution, Rose brings up that television was a means on Earth that helped shine a light to their plight but that only makes Saliss collapse as he realizes that his caricature of the Naked Fool was another ploy of his old man. Rose asks again what she can do to help only to get slammed onto the table by Saliss who expounds upon the cruelty the other party will enact bringing up that he and Mirn are the last two alive from their old group for a reason, he gives up after seeing her resolute desire to help asking her for more of her ridiculous stories.

Saliss returns to Pallass making his way to a Watch House on the eighth floor to meet with Qissa to speak to her about being on his cousin Onieva's side in whatever she does, Qissa tries to not make any promises but stops once she was pulled across the room by Saliss who threateningly reiterates that he's on Onieva's side before he leaves. Rose was in the inn getting ready for her trip to Pallass when Ieka asks her to change her attire to something more fitting but refuses as it's a part of her plans, she meets Saliss in front of an empty bar to have her meet with the Turnscale community with her later giving the [Alchemist] a sketch she made of Onieva.
