Synopsis edit edit source
After having copious amount of sex Jelaqua lays in bed with Maughin feeling insecure that she's not keeping up to her duty as a newfound wife, even with all of the joys of being married and all the sadness that her team is gone she still had to deal with her husband's family. Vhiren and her family has risen up in the world as her son became the best [Smith] in Pallass, she brings bread to Maughin's home inspecting and critiquing Jelaqua's aptitude while making a host of subtle hints of her disapproval of the Selphid. She leaves with Maughin understanding what his mother did telling Jelaqua that he's with her through and through as he leaves for work, Jelaqua does a few chores around the house think about her classes and levels and planning to go out later to make peace with Vhiren.
After waiting a while in Steelforged Loaves she speaks with Milden, the only family member of Maughin's that she has an amicable relationship with, but tired from all the passive aggressiveness that's coming from Linteca she shares that she's meeting with some Walled Nobles and leaves the store missing someone to vent her troubles to like her team. Jelaqua eats the average sandwich while all the other wives talk about how poor an investment the New Lands of Izril are point their eyes on Jelaqua on how her and her team would've done if they've went, she explains how her team would've dealt with the difficulties. Melika introduces herself to Jelaqua inquiring further into her insights on the matter having to split the group of gossiping wives into two after Minsvi's blatantly rude remarks, Werdin and the other married men arrive at the brunch meeting with the Drake shutting up his wife closing any further discussions with the Garuda. Grabbing a drink Jelaqua sees [General] Shirka right next to her, the two talk about what the restructuring of the Second Army of Pallass would have to make in order to have a defining characteristic unique to them. There aren't many good options for the out-of-favor [General] with Jelaqua returning back to the other [Socialites], she says her goodbyes to Melika free with the rest of her day with nothing much to do.
With a lot of free time on her hand Jelaqua goes to the Grand Bazaar to see if she can find something to buy, entering the Mage's Guild she sees a Drake selling the new products Wistram are offering such as a message book with a bunch of new functions and a [Levitation] spell that can be applied to simple objects. She's amazed by the new magic wondering what will created within a year's time by Eldavin, later she goes on to drink at Tails and Scales speaking with her sole barmate Troydel about her troubles with her free time when Maughin arrives complaining about not being able to work on his block of Adamantium due to his lacking forge and the Engineer's Guild diverting their focuses elsewhere. She brings him home so that he can eat the dinner she prepared and then have more sex.
The next day, Jelaqua with nothing to do for the day decides it's time to go to The Wandering Inn, she thinks about how she didn't go like Saliss did for the latest Solstice Event as the previous one her team paid the price for it. She sees the awkward reactions and conversations the inn staff is having about her, not able to take the off atmosphere much longer she leaves putting flowers at Liscor's northern gate returning back to Pallass. With Tails and Scales closed Jelaqua goes out searching for a bar to drink at but many of them are full of patron mourning the loss of the Second Army or [Soldiers] being deploy to the New Lands, she finds a place on the sixth floor that caters to those from the Engineer's Guild and speaking with them she learns that there's no budget for any new projects as it's being funneled towards the New Lands or the top secret project. They also complain that with Wistram's new magics that it's completely outshining all of their work to the point that the Assembly of Crafts is considering cutting their funding further even with Troydel's knowledge, she buys a round for everyone but notices the time and runs back home to make dinner hearing Maughin's complaints about the Engineer's Guild not funding his adamantium forge, she shares her how her day went and they go on to have more sex.
The next morning, Jelaqua thinks of maybe raising a child but dissuades herself of the idea from her experience raising older children as it doesn't solve her problem, she writes to a number of people in high place about Maughin's issue but mostly receives rejection letters except for Melika who she met during the brunch who invites Jelaqua to her home for a chat. Arriving at the opulent Blackwing estate, Jelaqua speaks with Melika about how much free time she has and Maughin's problem, but the conversation becomes sidetrack once Melika learns that Jelaqua has the [Loving Wife] class as the Garuda becomes defensive with her position in life. Jelaqua conciliates with Melika as she would've done the same given the choice sharing her perspective of making a home for oneself seeing the adoration coming from the Garuda who invites her to another brunch to which she accepts.
In a good mood Jelaqua planned on going to The Wandering Inn but gets stopped by a [Guardsman] and set aside until an agent arrives to escort her for Pallass business, Jelaqua puts her foot down not moving from her spot until she's told what's happening with Zemize complying telling her Troydel requested her out of all people to go with him on a secret meeting of Earthers the Walled Cities have acquired seeing if they can ferret out anything from the others there. While on the ride there Jelaqua asks Zemize what's up with the Engineer's Guild with Troydel blurting out that Pallass is behind with the manufacturing of guns as certain resources have dried up. With all of the advancements Wistram is bringing, it's sort of bringing down the sail of any other developments taking the magic out of the magic.
Arriving at the meeting spot Jelaqua is able to see that there are a number of people that are invisible with Troydel being nervous of meeting other Earthers after what happened to Erin, Jelaqua is able to encourage the boy to head towards the tent while ordering Zemize to investigate how the other Walled Cities are treating their Earthers. Entering the tent herself she can see that there's around twenty Earthers there but instead of talking with each other the Drakes are doing some sort of presentation on what the Walled City has to offer. Jelaqua grabs Troydel's arm and barges through towards another Earther groups meeting a pair of Spanish speakers learning of their story with help from a Mage [Translation] spell, with them hearing that Troydel is from the Spirited Generation and Joseph's name do the other Earthers there come over to talk. Jacques becomes angry that home hasn't done anything about their situation and how most of the are basically captives, the Drakes seeing the discontent then begin to capture back their Earthers calling off the meeting. As they return to Pallass, Jelaqua talks to Zemize about how fuck up that situation was with Troydel planning on requesting Imani for stuff from the Earthers' countries so he can send them gifts from home.
Jelaqua walks through Pallass thinking about the situation regarding Earthers and the Walled Cities being behind in the arms race for guns seeing that Pallas in its attempts to catch up are letting things crumble like the Engineer's Guild, discerning the need for change she goes to the one place that cultivated the spark that defined much of her life in this period. Entering The Wandering Inn, she planned on going to Esthelm to talk to Pelt but the inn staff are non-directly telling her to stay for a moment and to prepare for tears as she enters the [Garden of Sanctuary]. There she meets with Mireden and Kevin, but rather than the common reactions of cry or raging like the others Jelaqua instead believes that she died during the Solstice and has been living in a dream. Thinking she's in the lands of the dead she stands there waiting to wake up from the nice dream she's been having.
