tl;dr[edit | edit source]

  • Khelt's power has been decreasing since the souls of the dead were consumed.

Synopsis[edit | edit source]

As word of Sprigaena spread from Erin, some already knew about the dead and had other worries. Fetohep has been dealing with the aftermath of his run to Izril and back ever since he did it. As it stands, he has possession of two countries: Medain and the Claiven Earth that swore fealty, and he has many others smaller villages and city-states that want to go under his protection. The issue for Fetohep is that he does not want any of these and he has had enough trouble trying to convince others that he has no plans of expanding as is. Beyond this, Khelt has even larger issues that Fetohep needs to cover up. He brought forth some of his trusted citizens such as Colovt, the highest-level [Farmer] native to Khelt, to grow sweetberries with the excuse that there was a shortage. Others he brought forth, like Alked and Pewerthe saw through this. If there was a shortage, Khelt normally would have spent hundreds of gold to resolve the issue. In reality, Fetohep was preparing for a full resource shortage and sweetberries were a good way of getting nutrition en masse. He confided in Alked and Pewerthe that the powers of Khelt's undead had been greatly diminished since the denizens of the Land of the Dead vanished. Khelta was posthumously powering many of the spells keeping the undead animated and much of their strength was due to citizens agreeing to have themselves be bound to undead in death. All of those are gone and while Khelt may still act with largess, it has come to more of a crisis. Any show of weakness would likely have Khelt attacked since their treasury is still full and many nations have many reasons to hate the undead.

This difficult situation was compounded by the fact that Fetohep was recently in the limelight being shown as a generous crusader for justice. Thus, he has been receiving mountains of mail and [Messages] asking for help from around the world. Normally, Khelt may act on these, but their position has been massively weakened. Some, like the Quarass, likely even recognized this weakness and was already blackmailing Fetohep with it. Alked agreed to support Khelt in whatever followed, but the one named-rank adventurer was not enough. Pewerthe, not knowing how to help herself found someone who did: Erin Solstice. She set up a scrying call between the two where they were able to chat about their issues and reminisce a bit. Erin gave Fetohep the advice to use his treasury to make friends and alliances now, and they would come back to help when he needed them. Thus, Fetohep gave armor to some of those that traveled with him to Izril and offered others the chance to pursue old dreams in the hopes that they would come back stronger and ready to help him. Besides this, Fetohep also set up an interview with Drassi on Wistram News Network and used the opportunity to show the wonders of Khelt all while admonishing other rulers and the poorer conditions he'd heard about. This allowed him to help with some of the mail he'd received just by speaking to the world through a scrying orb.
