Synopsis[edit | edit source]

Erin Solstice wakes up in her bed, surrounded by everyone who cares about her: The Horns of Hammerad, Mrsha, Lyonette, Selys, Olesm, Klbkch, The Fellowship of the Inn, Inkar, Palt, Wer, and many more.

The warring has ended at the Meeting of Tribes, with Fissival standing down and Zeres and Manus falling back on their leaders' orders. Already, people are arguing over who the newly risen land belongs to. Shriekblade, having abandoned Salazsar, offers Lyonette a handkerchief when she starts sobbing.

On the hill outside the inn, Calruz stands, head bowed, with the seventeen remaining Beriad of the Antinium. Pivr, his wing broken, stands next to Normen and Alcaz, the former with his arm in a sling. Niers' students look up at the window, but Feshi is absent, having become the Chieftain of the Weatherfur tribe.

Liscor's Council has announced a public holiday on the day of Erin's resurrection, claiming it to be in memorial of the battle on the Great Plains and in celebration of Olesm and Liscor's Army. In the watch house, Zevara resets her "Solstice event" calendar to 0 days, pours herself a cup, and thinks that she will go to the inn after clocking out.

The first inhabitants of the Inn-Klbkch, Relc, Pisces, Rags, and Erin-reunite, and Rags speaks, shocking Erin. Looking around, Erin struggles to remember the people she met in Kasignel and feels a terrible fear.

Teriarch speaks to Manus and Rafaema, not recognizing Ressa at all, his memory also changed. As Eldavin dies, untethered from Teriarch, Cauwine and Kasigna appear and ask him if he wants to live. Eldavin reaches up to take one of their hands.

Belavierr, having survived the battle, stands on Izril's shores. The coven of the greatest [Witches] of every age whispered truth to her and set her the charge of ages, conscripting her in a struggle against a foe to make Seamwalkers seem small. As Belavierr tries to resist, she feels her class and craft threatening to break. Screaming, Belavierr walks into the sea on a long, deep journey.

Fetohep and Flos, among others, sail away from Izril. As the Drakes try to deal with the Goblins and Antinium, the Goblins fly away on Wyverns and Antinium disappear under the ground, with Teriarch teleporting anyone else home who wishes it. When the Walled Cities protest, Khelt is reinforced by the Four Great Companies of Baleros, the Blighted Kingdom of Rhir, the monarchs of Terandria, and great nations of Chandrar.

New passengers on the warships include Gnolls, abandoning Izril for a land that might not be filled with petty enemies. Hecrelunn, after feeling Khelta die, flies away from Izril alone, screaming curses, and weeping, his destination unknown. Salui, standing on Zeres' walls, is obliterated by magic as he cries out for His-Xe.

In Kasignel, Zineryr dangles his legs over the void, talking to Kasigna. Kasigna thinks he is going to tell her one last joke. Zineryr confesses that he loved Kasigna most of all the gods, because he knew she would take his hand when he died and give him meaning in the afterlife, even if it was her meaning. He hesitated and wept when he chose to take arms against her. For his joke, Zineryr describes how the gods defeated the dead and ate every last ghost, yet two gods fell and two more were carried away. Erin Solstice escaped and Oberon drew his designs across fate. The punchline is Kasigna thinking, "We will surely win this time."

He turns, smiles, and laughs at Kasigna, who has been silent. He reaches out and is consumed, and Kasigna begins her great task of creating an afterlife.

As Erin lays in her bed, going to sleep, she begins to cry from all her half-remembered experiences in Kasignel, jumbling in her head and fading away. She hears her level up, then the system tries and cancels levels received from inhabitants of Kasignel. She has to cancel classes, but finally levels up in [Witch]. Desiring to never forget what she owes the people she met, she manages to inadvertently unlock the Quests function of the system and achieves the highest rank of power with them. When she opens her eyes, Erin remembers everything.
