Synopsis edit edit source

Valeterisa wonders if Liscorians have mold in their brains for feeling wistful that the endless raining is coming to a close as she sits in a boat with Relc who's fishing, she doesn't see a point in fishing when magic can do it much more efficiently. Relc explains that he uses the time in between catches to think and focus sharing a time when he started in the Watch when he first came to Liscor, and that there's also skill—not skills—involved in fishing. Mireden comes near them on his own boat calling to Relc about how their fishing has gone with him have a big pile of his own, Valeterisa questions if he should be out here fishing and not do some campaigning for the upcoming election with him saying that there are many facets needed to win an election wearing a Liscor Hunted shirt.

This election cycle was a fierce one with intense competition for a seat on Liscor's Council with many factions weighing their hands on the scale for their preferred candidate to win, many people are outraged by the Half-Giant who is making a storm wherever he goes. Menolit has become a wealthy businessman due to the success of Liscor Hunted as it caters to the rich with safe lives that wanted to experience a bit of danger and him recording all of it to show the failures and successes to oncoming patrons. Menolit had refused making Liscor Hunted a political tactic for the current council to use against others, yet he was hardly apolitical as he watches Mireden snuff out a Lurkersnatch offering the Drake a free burger while wearing a Liscor Hunted shirt. The Half-Giant wasn't even hiding what he was doing with many [Strategists] trying to find a weakness they can focus on.

Zevara cuffs a Drake from Zeres for pushing children while complaining about having to do these odd mystery cases, arriving at City Hall she speaks with a Garuda about a potential water thievery but the Garuda just want to know if the waters of the Floodplains was free to grab. Sending the Garuda to a place where they can purchase barrels, Zevara continues down her list of things to further investigate with one being that someone is trying to recruit Liska.

Liska is at a meeting with a panel of interviewers who ask her questions about her qualifications for citizenship in Pallass, the panelists found her rather unremarkable except for her level and class and were starting to lose interest in the girl. The Gnoll Eye of Pallass agent seeing this starts to question Liska about her involvement with the Goblin King and why she decided to stay rather than flee, her answer was that she had to at least try to stop them even if it only helped a little bit. The panelists begin to ask Liska what sort of advancements her class can bring if leveled higher with her explaining how her class and skills work and how she plans to train, the Gnoll agent begins to share all of the benefits her becoming a Pallassian citizen would give her to the joy of Liska. But as things were coming to a close one of the panelists announces that they have decided to renounce their decision to the shock of the Gnoll agent, the reason being that in one of the reports they come to find about her significant other which makes it clear that she's a Turnscale.

Zevara enters the portal room wondering what Liska had chosen but learns that she was rejected instead for being a Turnscale, this makes Zevara question the rationale for the Watch to even focus on stuff like what Liska got in trouble for. Zevara asks Liska for the location of The Wandering Inn bringing the Gnoll along to ask Lyonette for aid to help with Liska's mother's drug addiction, after a long moment Zevara asks Liska if she's willing to introduce her girlfriend to her.

Mireden enters the inn to wait in line for the portal door to Liscor and puts on the Wistram News Network to pass the time, Mireden enters Liscor at the same time kids were leaving school, he glances up noticing something different from the rainy skies. Valeterisa too feels that something is wrong about the weather as she heads to Liscor with Grimalkin in Pallass feeling something odd about the storm as well. In Chandrar, Amerys absorbs and redirects a lightning strike across the seas using the many storms as slingshots to travel the distance—passing Zeres, the Great Plains, Pallass—to arrive at the Floodplains of Liscor, there she begins to send her magic out to find her target and the inn observing the city below noticing a child dressed as her and waits for the girl to raise her wand.

As Visma waves her wand about an actual lightning bolt hits the walls of Liscor, Visma indulges in flicking the wand a few more times with each flick causing lightning to be struck down. Everyone begins to notice the woman flying in the sky as she stares down at Drake girl, Dalimont grabs Visma breaking the moment between the two as Amerys starts to rain down lightning on Liscor laughing maniacally. Sensing the mana of the area Amerys is to get the general sense of the area of where the inn is at but whatever means they have is counteracting her methods, projecting her voice she tells those of the inn that she has come in peace requesting admittance into the inn. Lyonette reveals herself to the Archmage asking the woman if entry to the inn is all that she wants with Amerys sharing that she wants to experience a Solstice Event as she hungers for change but seeing that her magic is causing the [Princess] agony, she withdraws her request of entry asking for something else. Ishkr arrives with her requested items impressing the Archmage that she offers work to the Gnoll if he ever needs it, for her last request Amerys has come to face Archmage Valeterisa to a magical duel.

Valeterisa denies every making a challenge to Amerys as she tries to force her way into the [Garden of Sanctuary], Amerys readies herself turning the mana of the area into the lightning element feeling young again. She sees her opponent wave around a white flag calling for parlay, but she didn't come here for civility as the sensation—similar to when Raelt fought against Flos—of the world stopping to watch a duel between two archmages. Viltach and Feor wonder if they should stop the broadcast with Eldavin professing that this duel is something that should be worth witnessing, Az’kerash is digging in the New Lands of Izril when he receives news from his information network of what's transpiring telling his Chosen to stop and observe. Flos is informed of Amerys' challenge upset that he wasn't brought along halting his army to observe the duel, Belavierr—building a lever to eventually pull using the dead Kraken—observes the changing world as many threads converge on the duel. Tserre declares that it's the mage with the green hair that's going to win since she's a [Battlemage] and the other is not, Silvenia leisurely watches while eating some popcorn.

Valeterisa rambles about how scrying works to Montressa and Relc as they approach Amerys, she greets her fellow Archmage professing that she never issued a challenge while introducing her apprentice and romantic partner to her. Amerys goes on to explain that Wistram has not made peace for her imprisonment and while she knows that Valeterisa had nothing to do with it she is still affiliated with the institution and must accompany the consequences of that association. Valeterisa proclaims on various lie detection spell that she had no knowledge of the challenge given; the lightning mage shows them a recording of a talk Valeterisa had with her investors that has her saying—to paraphrase, Amerys is quite inferior to current Terras [Mages]. Valeterisa asserts that the recording was doctored with Amerys believing her but that it does not matter since she has come to duel to level and to steal advanced magic and throws the first spell.

Relc focuses on Amerys' incredible speed as Montressa protected the two of them behind her barriers as Amerys continues her offense with Valeterisa stuck defending against the onslaught. Relc observes the actions of Amerys recognizing the same tactics he would use as a speed attacker, the Drake then steps outside of the barrier to interfere in the Mage's Duel with Amerys testing him seeing that he is an actual [Spearmaster]. He warns her one last time before getting into his killing stance with the battle continuing, Relc is able to fend off the number of spells thrown at him but not cleanly and with him not able to do much else. Relc is then hit with a major spell that leaves him burning under the waters and his trusty anti-mage spear destroyed into pieces.

Montressa pulls Relc out of the waters with the Drake running to get another spear telling her to retreat back into the inn, wavering Montressa begins tossing out her own spells that are doing much. She notices that Amerys is always moving about so that targeting spells will lose their homing on her and remembers a spell that she can use that could work, it works in that it makes Amerys dodge the spell but gets clearly told by the Lightning Mage to not interfere further or die. Valeterisa through their link tells Montressa to fall back and to get her and Relc to safety, the Apprentice does as she knows she'll be a hindrance to her master is she stayed any longer. Only during her retreat did she noticed she was getting better at seeing the magic as she sees all of the scrying spells in the air just watching.

Fifteen minutes before the fight on WNN channel 1, Noass was playing his new segment 'I Hate Everything' shouting out why Liscor was getting all of the attention instead of other countries of much greater notoriety. Before his segment was a thing Noass was incredibly disliked and was close to being fired but he decided to lean hard into the hatred becoming the controversial figure that he is which brings in lots of viewers. Noass himself enjoyed being back on show but misses simpler times when it was just him and Relz, said Drake then barges in telling Noass that breaking news has arrived about the Archmage of Chandrar. The two begin their commentating about the current situation as the Mage's Duel commences with it being a clear picture that Amerys is winning by a large margin, Grimalkin and Pryde appearing at the studio to give their expertise on the matter. Grimalkin goes into detail how he isn't fast enough to properly commentate the duel but does his best to share his observations explaining the tactics the Archmages are using.

Pisces shares his understanding of the duel in the Court of Silks to his team and Yisame that neither mage is giving the other enough time to cast their big spells, Valeterisa then casts a [Valmira's Comet] which was a decoy to entrap Amerys but her instincts as a [Battlemage] allowed her maneuver out of the way. Amerys is rather disappointed at the moment wondering if that's all Valeterisa had in her, Valeterisa in turn shouts at her that her attacks are hitting the city below and any more will destroy the magic of the walls which will ensue a flooding of Liscor. Using the destruction of the city as a means to provoke Valeterisa, Amerys starts to form a tier 6 spell which does its job perfectly as Valeterisa charges towards her. In their exchange Valeterisa is hurled away with Amerys giving a choice of defending the city or herself as she tosses out two spells at once, but then the spell aimed at the city is blown apart with Amerys observing that it's a Green Mage that she doesn't recognize. Seeing that it's a Half-Giant she heads towards him aiming to kill the man but is suddenly pinned against something witnessing the magic the Half-Giant is harnessing.

Mireden faces off against Amerys using the same tactic that caught her off-guard the first time failing this time with her catching on to the trick making the spell explode, Amerys emerges from the waters with Mireden introducing himself to the Archmage declaring that no one is above the law demanding the both of them to cease with the battle and to surrender at once. The once duel which has now become a three-way fight would be picked apart by those watching and used in lectures to what the Mages should've done in the microseconds of decisions, yet they will never know what the mages beheld during that conflict. Amerys—the ever-moving, relentless bird of lightning, Mireden—who, while flightless out of the three, remained stalwart in his defense and positioning like the wrath of hills, and Valeterisa—dedication to all facets of magic and while not as homed in as the other two, is able to contest with them.

During a pause in the fighting Mireden taunts Amerys which pushes her over the edge, making a martial artist stance she zips forwards forcing the Half-Giant into using his level 50 capstone skill. After another exchange of blows, Amerys ramps up the danger by using a battlefield skill and a Weapon Arts with Mireden damning the fools at Wistram for making her even more deadly summoning a wall of stone to shield him and Valeterisa. Mireden lets out that he orchestrated this event to happen as it was the most convenient option to aid in his election goals and tries talking strategy to Valeterisa only for the Archmage to blow their enclosure up into flames for his transgression.

Grimalkin is flabbergasted by Amerys inventing a combat art but acknowledges that she is the pinnacle of the Waning World being the closest to obtaining the [Archmage] class in Wistram, he starts to pontificate how lonely it must've been for her at the peak and that could be the reason why she gravitate towards the King of Destruction and the other Seven. Grimalkin compares her current strength to when Zelkyr and Az’kerash battle in Rhir—on the level 60 threshold—and tries to leave to join the fight to aid his friends, only Pryde was able to stop him for a moment before Relz pushed her aside asking the Sinew Magus what's his relations with this Human [Lady]. Grimalkin—unafraid of the peer pressure aimed at him—shares his romantic relationship with Pryde for the world to witness with many complaints pouring in.

Valeterisa hits the ground after taking on the blitz of attacks Amerys strikes at her questioning why they blows haven't killed her yet, in the midst of being tossed around she realizes that Amerys' aim was never to kill her but to steal her research. Amerys cautiously approaches the downed opponent just in case reading the threatening [Message] sent by inn, Valeterisa does what she can to stop her from stealing her bag of holding but fails as Amerys tears it open with the tens of thousands of pages flying everywhere. Despair that her life's work is being stolen right in front of her when she was so close to finding the answer Valeterisa lays there as she views her mountain of work exploded into the skies with her eyes become distorted by it all, Amerys bewitched by the magic coalescing in Valeterisa's eyes notices that the woman has the same eyes of Zelkyr who rediscovered a lost truth by themselves. Valeterisa tears her eyes away from the vision of magic focuses her gaze upon the woman who tried to steal everything which raises Amerys' alarm.

Valeterisa tells Montressa to protect her papers before shooting herself skywards beginning to use [Autocast] with [Light Arrow] seeing how effortless casting the near two hundred she casually threw out was, using her [Parallel Thoughts] she constructed a spell that continuously generates seeking light projectiles and then with all of her will she cast another spell with layers of autocast stacked upon it. Mireden with a smile on his face and full of pride as the Archmage of Izril has succeeded watching Amerys trying to outrun the arrows pursuing her, he then notices a cloud of arrow split off heading straight for him. Valeterisa chases after Amerys generating a higher-tier spell with [Autocast] which hits her square on, Valeterisa to write a note to her apprentice about the intricacies of [Autocast] but Amerys emerges again from the waters and charges through the homing [Light Arrows] still having the energy to continue fighting. Mireden teams up with Valeterisa against Amerys and as the Lightning Mage was about to throw a tier 6 spell at the two other mages she is suddenly kicked back, dodging a few more projectiles she see that it was Relc chucking practice spears at her.

Relc is able to predict where Amerys is going to appear nearly hitting her as she pops up at a hill nearby, Mireden and Valley arrive on his hill surround it with barriers with the Drake explaining what he sensing to the two mages with them not being able to truly understand what he means. Focusing on that feeling Relc revisits the memory of meeting that Gnoll [Spearmaster] when he was a [Soldier] who with a simple swing of his spear parted grass for some lengths away, most people he told the tale to focus much on the length he could cut but to Relc it was what they were cutting apart. With his understanding crystalizing he slashes a patch of clear space like a mirror finish, after that oddity collapsed he slashes again and notices that he has silenced motion around the area that he had cut. Relc lowers himself into his attack stance but Amerys decided to concede defeat instead of continuing the fight zipping away, they chase after her with Montressa able to capture Amerys within her barriers but Valeterisa frowns as a good [Mage] would always have a backup plan if they lost.

Takhatres leaps from the walls of Liscor speeding his way through Montressa's spells hitting the Half-Giant a few times before running into the distance with Amerys following after him, the two of the Seven banter with Valeterisa finally recognizing who the Garuda is telling the others there. The two groups pause to speak about calling the fight a draw with the two Archmages arguing which turns into bickering, they agree to put the fighting to an end with Amerys and Takhatres leaving all the way back to Chandrar. Relc—having none of that—tell everyone that he can to start blasting the two with everything they can throw for coming into their home and messing with them, Zevara allows the order to go through with Liscor's walls lighting up with their artillery spells. The two were last seen on the scrying orb laughing having the time of their lives, Valeterisa sees that she has won.

Tserre finds that her critique of the Mage's Duel had been listened by no one since it ruined to mood for everyone, Grimalkin roars out his catchphrase across the world bellowing to the ignorant Drakes of Fissival and Pallass of the person that they could've made their own. In the inn Lyonette watches it all happen on the scrying orb hearing the reactions of the children to the event, the three return back to Liscor to the applause of its citizens with a Half-Giant receiving a scowl from a young Gnoll woman. Takhatres—once they were in a safe area—reads a message shot at him by Bird asking if he's a bird or not since he cannot fly.
